Support Staff Payroll Specialist - Palliser Education Center

Location: Palliser Education Center (Central Office - Lethbridge)

Anticipated Start Date: April 29, 2024 (or date mutually agreeable)

FTE: 1.0 FTE Permanent Full-Time

Palliser School Division is accepting applications for the permanent full-time position of Payroll Specialist. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, the Payroll Specialist, as a part of the payroll team, will be responsible for processing biweekly and monthly payroll (including approximately 1,100 employees plus 200 plus casuals per month), benefits administration, employee payroll file maintenance, onboarding of new employees and other related duties as required. This position is located out of the Palliser Education Center in Lethbridge, Alberta commencing immediately, or when a suitable candidate is found.

Qualifications of the successful candidate will include strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills. A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a payroll environment including pension and collective agreement interpretation, complimented by a Business Administration Diploma in Accounting. Canadian Payroll Association certification is preferred but not required. Consideration may be given to years of experience in lieu of education.

The successful applicant will have strong computer skills and be proficient in the use of Google Drive, Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel. Experience with school board payroll would be a significant asset.

Palliser School Division is a public-school jurisdiction located in southern Alberta. The geographical area stretches from just south of Lethbridge to the Bow River south of Calgary. Palliser Center houses the Central Office Administration, Maintenance and Transportation and is located in the City of Lethbridge. In addition, a satellite Maintenance Shop has been set up in the Town of Vulcan. The division offers full public education services to approximately 9,500 students ECS through Grade 12 in 49 schools, including 2 outreach programs, 4 alternative Low-German Mennonite programs, 12 alternative programs, 17 Hutterite colony schools and Palliser’s online school; Palliser Beyond Borders. Eleven of Palliser’s alternative programs are located in the City of Calgary. Palliser’s preliminary operating budget for the 2023/24 school year is 110M. The division prides itself on a history of excellence in education, strong community support, proactive planning and, most importantly, high student achievement.

Schedule:

Monday - Friday 8:30 am - 4:30 pm in office

Compensation:

Salary range based on education and experience ranging from $60,120 - $66,748 to start

Benefits:

LAPP employee and employer paid pension
