The Ministry of Municipal Affairs brings together key government services and supports needed to make B.C. communities great places to live. The Land Use, Planning and Regional Impacts Branch supports British Columbia's local government land use planning framework by developing and implementing policies and programs while collaborating with local governments, other provincial ministries, and interested parties. The Branch does this by developing strategic partnerships, resolving complex problems, providing expert advice and exercising influence.

Job Requirements:
  • Master's degree in planning or related area (e.g., geography, environmental studies, public administration) and two (2) years of *related experience, or
  • Bachelor's degree in a related area (e.g., geography, environmental studies, public administration) and three (3) years of *related experience.
  • Other combinations of training/education and related experience may be considered.
  • Membership or eligible for membership in the Planning Institute of British Columbia and/or Canadian Institute of Planners is required.

*Related experience must include a combination of the following:
  • land use planning and development.
  • the implementation of policy, programs and/or legislation including options identification and design.
  • researching, analyzing and evaluating regulatory, technical, program-related or broad cross sector issues and information to assess the impact on policy and/or legislation.
  • producing complex and high-level written documentation including policy, draft legislation, ministerial and executive level correspondence, etc.
  • interacting and/or working with senior management and Ministry executive or equivalent.
  • building relationships with interested parties, local governments and Indigenous Nations.

Preference may be given to applicants who have:
  • Experience in any of the following local government planning policy areas such as: climate action, development approvals processes, or regional growth strategies.
  • Experience in local government and Indigenous Nations relations.
