Salary Range
As of April 7, 2024, $85,813.18 - $97,879.22 annually, which includes a 3.3% Temporary Market Adjustment*, plus $37.64 bi-weekly isolation allowance for Smithers.

Job Summary

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy is responsible for the effective protection, management and conservation of BC's water, land, air and living resources. It leads work on climate preparedness and adaptation and leads plans to meet greenhouse gas reduction targets.
The Recreation Sites and Trails Branch (RSTBC) is a provincial program delivered through a headquarters office in Victoria, four regions, and 20 districts across the province. The purpose of the Branch is to plan, develop, maintain, and manage a significant, diverse, and valuable network of 1300+ recreation sites and 800+ recreation trails to provide safe, quality recreational opportunities for the residents of, and visitors to British Columbia. In collaboration with other agencies and a wide variety of stakeholders, the Branch manages public recreation use on Crown land in British Columbia (outside of areas managed by BC Parks and other settled recreational areas). Recreation sites and trails are, in great part, managed through the use of service contracts and partnership agreements, negotiated with a variety of partners and stakeholders.
The Indigenous Relations Advisor provides expert advice and leadership on legislation, regulations and policies relating to Indigenous relations and recreation planning and management for the Recreation Sites and Trails program.
Job Requirements:
  • Master's degree in public administration, business administration, law, economics, social sciences, natural resource management or a field related to the program area and two (2) years of *related experience; OR,
  • Bachelor's degree in public administration, business administration, law, economics, social sciences, natural resource management or a field related to the program area and three (3) years of *related experience; OR,
  • Diploma in public administration, business administration, law, economics, social sciences, natural resource management or a field related to the program area and four (4) years *related experience; OR,
  • Certificate or completed post-secondary coursework in public administration, business administration, law, economics, social sciences, natural resource management or a field related to the program area and five (5) years *related experience; OR,
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

*Related experience must include:
  • Experience in the development of legislation, regulation, and policy.
  • Experience in planning and coordinating complex projects/assignments.
  • Experience in concisely and persuasively writing a range of documents/content.

Preference may be given to applicants with:
  • Experience with interpretation of Canadian case law, legislation, acts and policies.
  • Experience with First Nations issues and principles of collaboration.
  • Experience working with Indigenous organizations and/or communities.
  • Applicants who identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit)
