We are looking for a Quality Control Technician at our Walker Aggregates Division - Grey-Bruce location.

Walker is committed to supplying high quality aggregates in every region that we operate in. The materials produced at our pits and quarries are used to build Ontario’s infrastructure, which is the foundation of our economy – including roads, bridges, underground infrastructure, sidewalks, houses, schools and hospitals.

Your goal in this position will be to sample and test the aggregate that is produced off of the various plants set up at the quarry as well as ensure regular shipping samples meet required specifications prior to shipping any material. It will be your responsibility to communicate all test results and highlight any deficiencies to the quality and operations team to ensure we are only providing high quality products to our customers.

In this role, you will work closely with our customers, production supervisors, plant operators and site superintendent with a direct report to the Quality Control & Assurance Manager. You will get exposure to many parts of the aggregate and construction business, which is a great way to learn and set the stage for a terrific career at Walker.

Major (Primary) Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a daily Quality Control database and analyze test data and reports to identify deviations and monitor quality trends
  • Perform standardized laboratory tests for product characteristics, while complying with industry standards, to ensure product specifications and Quality Control values are maintained
  • Inspect production and shipping material handling and procedures to ensure there is no negative effect on product quality
  • Maintain a clean and efficient laboratory to ensure the equipment complies with CCIL standards and that continued maintenance is performed/documented to assist in the accuracy of testing
  • Troubleshoot areas of concern within the shipping and production operations as well as on job sites as required
  • Produce various summaries and reports for supervisors, customers and managers to highlight product quality and control
  • Provide customers with information to assist in solving product performance problems as necessary and refers to the appropriate personnel as required
  • Participate as a vital team member, and contribute towards the success of the organization, which may involve the provision of other technical and administrative support, as required
  • Promote, execute and adhere to the company’s safety program, and encourage all employees, sub-contractors and consultants to adopt safety as a culture

Skills:

  • Demonstrated ability to pay close attention to details and make sure work is done correctly and thoroughly. Keeps accurate records
  • Ability to identify, analyze and resolve problems efficiently and effectively
  • Organized and methodical to structure workflow and follow specific procedures
  • Basic computer software skills track data and produce documents and reports as required
  • Able to work with limited supervision and to take discretionary action as required
  • Communicates with clarity, verbally and in one on one or group situations, or over the telephone
  • Communicates well in writing by composing clear documents; facility with editing and/or proofreading is required
  • Employee must perform work outdoors in all weather conditions, and will work around moving mechanical parts and equipment
  • Various PPE will include safety boots, reflective clothing, safety glasses, gloves and hard hat, additional PPE may be required depending upon tasks
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50+ pounds

Qualifications:

  • Valid G License required
  • Any experience in asphalt/aggregates or concrete testing or previous construction employment is an asset
  • CCIL certification would be an asset
  • College or technical school is an asset
