On-site: This position requires an employee to be on-site on a full-time basis.
The Role
The Site Safety Supervisor leads a team of Safety Professionals while supporting the CAMI Assembly Site including implementation of the Safety Management System and site Health and Safety related goals. In addition, working with leadership to develop direction to successfully implement the Global Workplace Safety Strategies at the site level.
The supervisor partners with site leadership to lead the successful execution of the annual safety system action plans and initiatives. Providing their direct reports with clear direction, education and tools to be effective in problem solving, injury reduction and culture development initiatives. This includes ensuring regulatory and GM requirements are communicated, understood, implemented, and assessed at the work location as required.
Working effectively with union representatives to jointly resolve site related issues is a key aspect of this position. As the site contact for Health and Safety regulatory agencies, the role requires the incumbent to lead resolution of government safety violations or citations.
What You’ll Do (Responsibilities)
Lead the Workplace Safety System site implementation
Perform Workplace Safety risk assessments and reviews
Drive effective incident investigations
Develop and implement business plan initiatives
Lead/ Support new and modified equipment review and buyoff processes
Conduct safety audits, self-assessment validations, surveys, and inspections to verify Workplace Safety System compliance levels, against legal and corporate requirements.
Lead the CAMI Joint Health and Safety Process
Participate in annual safety training programs and attend conferences
Point of contact for regulatory visits and communications
Own the contract for health and safety related suppliers
Develop and implement training as required
Additional Job Description
Y our Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Bachelor’s Degree in related field or equivalent experience
Minimum 5 years of experience in Health and Safety or Ergonomics or related field
Knowledge of the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations
Demonstrated high level of initiative and interpersonal skills to work effectively with others
Proven analytical ability to work independently, investigate and to apply technical judgment and resolve safety problems
Ability to interface effectively with other departments, staffs, suppliers and regulatory agencies
Strong written and oral communication skills
Knowledge of Computer Software & Systems (Access, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
W hat Can Give You a Competitive Advantage (Preferred Qualifications)
CRSP Designation
Previous manufacturing/supervisory experience is desired
Knowledge in GM’s Global Manufacturing System and H&S Core Elements
Knowledge of Health and Safety Management Systems
Knowledge of GM’s Safety Contract Management Process
