Reporting to the Parks Supervisor, this position will play an integral role in maintaining outdoor amenities and making Strathmore a beautiful and enjoyable place for all who live here and visit us.

Position Summary:
The Seasonal Parks Operator will be part of the Operations Team and will work primarily outdoors. This position requires daily usage of hand and power tools, handling of chemicals, and operation of work vehicles. The tasks required can also be physically demanding.
Duties will include but are not limited to:
- Operate a variety of light duty equipment (vehicles, water trucks, tractors, mowers, weed trimmers, backpack blowers, rototillers, hand tools, etc.)
- Maintain outdoor parks amenities for public use
- Maintain parks, pathways, green spaces, flower beds, planters, trees, and floral displays
- Assist in set up and tear down of special events, as required
- Assist in the repair of Town infrastructure, as required
- Conduct environmentally friendly weed control
- Set up and turn on of watering devices for irrigation purposes
- Collection and disposal of litter from parks and greenspaces
- Changing of garbage bags in Town-owned garbage receptacles
- Perform duties in accordance with all Town safety policies and OH&S requirements
- Assist other departments with operating duties, as required
- Required to work outside in all weather conditions
- Candidates must be available to work weekends until September 3rd
Hours:
The hours of work will be four (4), ten (10) hour days scheduled Friday to Monday for a total of forty (40) hours per week. Overtime may be required to meet operational needs. Due to civic events, it is mandatory that all Seasonal Weekend Park Operators be available to work on Canada Day and the Heritage Day long weekend.
Successful applicants will demonstrate on their resume:
- Minimum of Grade 12 education
- Minimum Class 5 Alberta Driver’s Licence, with clean Driver’s Abstract
- Able to operate various maintenance equipment and tools
- Can work independently and cooperatively in a team environment
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Training in First Aid, WHMIS, and Flag Person Safety are all considered assets
