The Opportunity
The Parks and Transportation department of the City of Wetaskiwin is in search of twenty-two (22) individuals to join their team for the upcoming spring/summer season (April- August). As a Seasonal Operator reporting to the Parks and Transportation Supervisor, you will be responsible for a range of tasks related to the minor operation and upkeep of the City's infrastructure assets and greenspaces. These include, road maintenance, storm water maintenance, Parks and open spaces maintenance, and cemetery maintenance. Additionally, this role involves operating small hand-held equipment and providing assistance in fleet maintenance.
Hours of Work
This position is based on a 40hr/week (7:00am-3:30pm) from Monday to Friday with Saturday and Sunday off.
Responsibilities
- Performs duties and operates equipment used in maintenance of streets, storm sewers, Parks and open spaces, cemeteries, and other public works functions.
- Performs manual labour, as necessary, such as shoveling, lifting heavy objects, grass cutting and trimming, etc.
- Undertake preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and operation of equipment.
- Record keeping through existing paper processes and future transition to digital.
- Maintains positive public image through excellent customer service and communication.
- Other duties as assigned.
- 16-30 years of age (based on grant requirements)
- Holds a current valid Alberta driver’s license and have a clean driver’s abstract.
- Active team player
- Experience operating relevant equipment is an asset.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills
- Willingness to learn and adapt to process changes.
- Basic computer knowledge
- Ability to perform all functions of the job and can lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time in all weather conditions.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders, crawl, crouch, walk and stand for long periods of time on a variety of surfaces such as concrete, asphalt, turf, etc.
- Can operate small equipment and hand tools with experience such as shovel, pick, rake, Pulaski, tamping bar, axe, hatchet, machete, handsaw, loppers, pruning shears, power washer, hand vacuum and buffer, weed eater)
