The Opportunity
The City of Wetaskiwin's Waste Management department is seeking an individual to join their team for the upcoming spring/summer season (April- August). If you enjoy outdoor work, operating equipment, and delivering excellent customer service, then this position could be a perfect fit for you!
Reporting to the Waste Management Supervisor, the Operator will perform a range of general and specialized labor tasks requiring physical effort, agility and a focus on health and safety protocols. This seasonal role entails operating a variety of equipment and machinery.
Hours of Work
This position is based on a 40hr/week (8:00am-5:00pm) from Tuesday to Saturday with Sunday and Monday off. Work location will be split between the landfill and recycle depot.
Responsibilities
Landfill
- Operate computer, debit machine, answer phone in a professional manner.
- Weigh in and out customers entering and leaving Wetaskiwin City Landfill
- Keep daily log records, do cash out and count float.
- Maintaining and practicing safe work procedures
- Cleaning windblown litter
- Cleaning ditches leading to landfill.
- Clean around transfer bins at landfill
- Assist customers at recycle depot.
- Assist customers at landfill.
- Random load audits
- Weed eating and other grounds maintenance.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Provide excellent customer service.
- Safely operate the cardboard compactor
- Assist customers in using assigned sorting bins.
- Load, unload, and sort materials as they are brought in.
- Ensure bins are properly sorted to reduce contamination.
- Assist customers with oil drop offs and their electronics.
- Other duties as required.
Education, Qualifications, and Work Experience
- 16-30 years of age (based on grant requirements)
- Holds a current valid Alberta driver’s license and have a clean driver’s abstract.
- Active team player
- Ability to perform all functions of the job and can lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods of time in all weather conditions.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time on a variety of surfaces such as concrete, asphalt, turf, etc.
- Can operate small equipment and hand tools with experience such as shovel, pick, rake, Pulaski, tamping bar, axe, hatchet, machete, handsaw, loppers, pruning shears, power washer, hand vacuum and buffer, weed eater)
