What you will do
Reporting to the Manager of Security Operations at our Toronto Agency Operations Centre (TAOC), you manage risks to the Bank of Canada's people, information and physical assets by countering threats with appropriate protective safeguards through your physical presence as an armed Security Officer.

 

You respond to emergencies (e.g., fire alarms, health and safety, intrusion alarms, access control violations) and assist colleagues as required to ensure that the security of Bank sites is maintained.

 

You operate state-of-the-art security equipment by conducting surveillance of vital areas of the Bank: monitoring alarms, detecting intrusion and directing response officers in an emergency.  

 

You escort visitors, tradespeople and Bank personnel carrying securities in high-security areas within the Bank to ensure the safety of personnel and property. You greet and assist employees and visitors at the main entry points to the building and maintain collaborative relationships with staff and visitors to support operational objectives. As required, you provide on-site security for special events. 

 

What you need to succeed
We are looking for an effective communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and tact in dealing with personnel at various levels within the Bank and with visitors. You must be capable of working independently and in a team environment where mutual support is essential. You must be able to operate effectively in stressful emergency situations and respect confidentiality of information. Finally, you must demonstrate self-motivation, initiative and flexibility and exercise sound judgment and escalate complex problems or situations to your supervisor when required.

 

As a Security Officer, you must possess a valid firearms Possession and Acquisition License (PAL), for restricted firearms, non-restricted firearms and must be available to work shifts (day, evening, midnight and weekends). 

 

You must have the following:

  • advanced knowledge of access-control, intrusion detection, and alarm monitoring systems, closed-circuit television (CCTV) and other related security systems 
  • advanced knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Word
  • sound knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada (sections pertaining to the use of force and the powers of arrest)

 

Nice-to-have

  • ability to communicate effectively in both official languages 
  • defensive tactics training
  • police or military experience
  • previous experience in an armed role

 

Your education and experience

  • post-secondary certificate or diploma in security management or police foundations
  • a minimum of three years of security experience in a highly secured environment

or

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered

  • Priority will be given to Canadian citizens and permanent residents
  • Security level required: Be eligible to obtain Secret

  • Salaries are based on qualifications and experience and typically range from $66,545 to $78,288 (job grade 13)
  • Depending on performance, you may be eligible for performance pay. The first tier of performance pay is for successfully meeting expectation, at  3 to 5% of your base salary. The Bank offers performance pay for those who exceed expectations (7% of your base salary).. Exceptional performers who far exceed expectations may be eligible for higher performance pay.
