CANDIDATE
The Senior Accountant is responsible for all aspects of accounting and collaborates closely with the CFO in interpreting and utilizing accounting information. The successful candidate will lead strategic planning for both the short and long term, analyzing and considering financial issues and strategies and their potential impacts. The right candidate will be an experienced accounting professional who has a good working knowledge of the construction industry and its associated job costing. They will bring a wide breadth of abilities such as excellent analytical skills, strong initiative, and the ability to perform day-to-day full cycle accounting tasks.
Candidate must have a strong attention to detail and high moral and ethical code of conduct. It is critical this individual comes from a construction accounting background with an understanding of job costing and cost control.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITY
- Consistently provide high quality, accurate full-cycle accounting activities – Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, General Ledger, Payroll, month-end, and year-end support.
- Prepares and manages contractual progress invoicing, holdback accounting and its supporting documentation.
- Collaborate with CFO and work closely with internal stakeholders, such as the project and management teams, to prepare job costs reports to utilize for forecasting.
- Prepare/analyze financial statements, including balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow.
- Perform bank reconciliations.
- Administer bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll ensuring timely and accurate submission of remittances, ROE’s and T4s.
- Ensures corporate compliance by holding a current and solid understanding of the Alberta Employment Standards Act and Regulations.
- Ensure all regulatory requirements are remitted on-time, including GST/PST, WCB, Work Safe BC, Corporate Tax Installments, etc.
- Administer bi-weekly and semi-monthly payroll ensuring timely and accurate submission of remittances, ROE’s and T4s.
- Utilize Sage 300 accounting software to record financial transactions accurately and efficiently.
- Develop and implement accounting systems and procedures such as bookkeeping, budget and cost control, and financial reporting.
- Administer, maintain, monitor, and update the accounting systems as needed to ensure the integrity of the company’s financial management.
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance - CPA certification is highly desirable.
- Working knowledge of Canadian generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar, versatile accounting or full cycle bookkeeping role in the construction industry with exposure to construction trades, sub-trades, and job costing.
- Familiar with reporting requirements of all Federal and Provincial (Western Canada focus) regulatory bodies relating to Payroll, PST, GST, WCB, Work Safe BC.
- Payroll processing experience.
- Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
- Team player, energetic, solution-oriented with the ability to multi-task.
- Solid understanding of budgeting and financial forecasting processes.
- Proficiency in Sage 300 software.
- Strong English communication skills, verbal and written.
- Proven ability to provide proactive accounting information/advice to executive management.
- Effective time management, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent command of Excel and Microsoft programs.
