Senior Data Specialist - Remote (Canada or USA)


Engineered Intelligence is seeking a Senior Data Specialist to develop innovative solutions to problems faced by the power sector. This role demands an individual contributor who is adept at formulating and solving complex problems using data-driven solutions. The successful candidate will bridge our software product development and delivery teams, leadership, and clients, leveraging deep expertise in data analytics with a specialized focus on the power sector.

The ideal candidate qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in computer science, applied mathematics, electrical engineering, industrial engineering, or a related field
  • Extensive experience in data analytics and proven ability to tackle complex problems hands-on. Must have experience working in the power sector
  • Experience working with software product development or delivery teams is a benefit
  • Strong proficiency in Python, R, or equivalent programming languages for statistical analysis, data manipulation, data visualization, and machine learning applications. Experience with Java and Scala is a benefit
  • Familiarity with spatial data analysis tools / GIS technology
  • Ability to work with unstructured data as well as model, collect, and refine new datasets. Must be familiar with SQL
  • Excellent communication/presentation skills, able to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical teams
  • Capable to contribute independently as well as part of a team
  • Strong analytical mindset, critical thinking, and attention to detail.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Take the lead on solving real-world problems facing the power sector, such as electrical system reliability simulation, equipment failure prediction, grid state estimation, demand forecasting, and impacts of extreme weather events on electric grid infrastructure.
  • Utilize common and advanced data science techniques including machine learning, Bayesian statistics, conditional value at risk modelling, stochastic calculus, and more to devise effective solutions.
  • Collaborate with product development and product delivery teams to develop and refine software solutions, incorporating client feedback and strategic direction.
  • Serve as a power user / SME of our ENGIN product, applying the technology to address complex problems facing electric utility infrastructure planning.
  • Perform spatial analysis, using GIS tools, for applications in the power sector.
  • Engage with senior experts in power system equipment, design, and operation, combining their experience with modern data science techniques.
  • Develop high-fidelity prototypes using appropriate tools such as Python, R, Excel, other programming languages, and query languages such as SQL.
