We are looking for a skilled political communicator who has expertise-level knowledge in social media and general popular culture. The successful candidate will be someone who can employ this advanced knowledge to craft successful media campaigns surrounding progressive social and economic policies. Ultimately, Senator Pate is seeking a communications strategy that starts online but that can help to mobilize important work on the ground.
The Special Assistant's duties will also include:
- Hands-on control of outgoing communications material. This is especially important to ensure consistent messaging from Senator Pate’s office;
- Uploading, posting and content creation transferable to Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.;
- Monthly content calendar creation. Content calendar should include short-term follower and engagement numbers and long-term communications strategies;
- Bi-weekly check ins including metrics overview and analysis. Where required, this analysis will include suggested tweaks;
- You have a good working knowledge of the political landscape, major issues of our office, particularly guaranteed livable basic income, and an ability to communicate on those issues with passion;
- Requisite knowledge of political and social culture including being up to date with current events in Canada and around the world, being up to date with trending content and conversations and being able to creatively read the curve of where online conversations may be going.

The general public to staff one (1) determinate (part-time) position in the Office of the Honourable SenatorKim Pate.

Prerequisites
- University diploma from a recognized university in Marketing, Communications or any other field related to the duties of the position or an acceptable combination of education, training and experience;
- Experience providing general administrative and legislative services in an office environment such as writing formal correspondence, briefing materials and reports, formatting documents, organizing and scheduling meetings and managing electronic filing systems;
- Experience in dealing with senior officials, parliamentarians and the media;
- Experience in using the MS-Office suite and Canva;
- Detail oriented, well organized, creative and able to coordinate and multitask competing priorities and timelines;
- Advanced knowledge and experience working with social media platforms (Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.), management tools, and current industry landscape;
- Experience in graphic design and video editing is considered an asset;
- English is essential. Bilingualism (English and French) is considered an asset.
