Special Events Coordinator

WAGERATE: $36.34 per hour (2022 rates)
HOURSOF WORK: 35-hour work week
WORKSCHEDULE: Monday to Friday, 8 am to 4 pm

Job Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Communications, the Special Events Coordinator administers, and coordinates organized events and gatherings on City property, both public and City hosted. The incumbent will liaise with event organizers to coordinate the intake, review and booking of special event applications and supporting documentation and will ensure payment of event fees and deposits. The coordinator exercises considerable independence and judgement in ensuring adherence to City bylaws and policies, and in coordinating various event requirements with departmental staff. The incumbent will attend events, and hours of work may be outside of regular City business hours.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum two year completed post-secondary education in event management, marketing, tourism, recreation, business or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Possession of a valid BC Driver’s License Class 5 and good driving record
- Minimum three years’ experience in event coordination, including leading large-scale events, preferably in a public sector setting.
At the City’s discretion, a similar combination of skills, education and experience may be considered.
