Department OverviewThe Chief Accountant's Department is responsible for TD Bank Group's (TDBG) consolidated financial statements and selected regulatory filing for the Canadian subsidiaries. The Chief Accountant's team ensures that all these filings are accurate, timely and compliant with the accounting and regulatory requirements set by different governing bodies.The Financial Reporting Controls Team (FRC) within Chief Accountant's supports the Chief Accountant & Controller in fulfilling their controllership mandate, is responsible for setting policies governing Financial Reporting and providing oversight on their compliance. It is also responsible for providing guidance and oversight on Financial Reporting related controls at both the Consolidated Bank level and significant subsidiaries level.
Job DetailsIf you are a highly motivated individual and are looking to make an impact by putting your experience and ideas into practice with a dynamic team, this is the role for you.As a Specialized Finance Manager, you will be responsible for providing strategic guidance and oversight on Financial Reporting Controls. You will develop strategic partnership with cross-segment teams across the Bank to provide expert advice on Financial Reporting governance policies and control frameworks, identifying opportunities to improve processes and controls, and overseeing the implementation of changes.
In this role, you will:
- Provide expert advice to business partners and stakeholders on complex Financial Reporting risk and controls, including preparing assessments/opinions on risk and controls and any gaps requiring remediation
- Partner with other lines of defense to monitor and assess compliance to policies and provide recommendations to enhance controls and processes.
- Develop and manage working relationships with key business partners and stakeholder groups, both internally (segment finance, finance operations, risk, and internal audit) and externally (auditors)
- Assist in the development, maintenance, and interpretation of Bank-wide Financial Reporting policies
- Provide training to business partners and stakeholders on Financial Reporting governance policies
- Be the Finance advocate and champion of financial controls to drive continuous improvement within the Bank – streamline, standardize, liaise with Internal Audit, Segment Finance
- Keep abreast of emerging issues, trends, and evolving regulatory requirements and assess potential impacts to the Bank
- Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA/CPA) is a must
- University degree in business or other relevant fields
- 5+ years' experience in an audit or accounting/finance role
- Financial industry experience would be considered a strong asset
- Public accounting firm experience would be considered a strong asset
- Financial reporting, internal controls, or audit experience considered an asset
- Ability to build effective and collaborative working relationships with cross-functional teams and business partners
- Effective communication skills (both written and verbal), organizational and time-management skills
- Good understanding of financial statement assertions and their practical application in controls
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to synthesize data, extract meaning and utilize relevant information to identify opportunities and provide recommendations
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to anticipate issues, identify opportunities and recommend solutions
- Given high level objectives and plan, ability to navigate some level of ambiguity and execute
- Ability to make recommendations based on a combination of data and professional judgment
