Job Summary
Under the direction of AVP, Information Security & Network Infrastructure and Lead, Network Infrastructure, the IT Network Facilities Engineer is responsible for smooth operation, change management and upkeep of corporate & branch office network/server rooms/colocation datacenters including power (UPS, PDUs), cooling (HVAC maintenance), racks, environmental monitoring, physical security (access cards/keys, alarms, video surveillance), network patch installation and repair, network inventory / maintenance, new office setup and other duties as assigned by Network Management team.
The Network Infrastructure team's responsibilities include all networking & infrastructure aspects for LAN, WAN, Wireless (802.11x), Load Balancing (LTM/GTM), Remote Access (VPN), Firewall, Network Access Control, DDoS, Network Management solutions and Telecom in a regulated enterprise environment that focuses on availability and security. The Network Infrastructure team is also responsible for datacenter & network closet infrastructure within the co-location data centers and offices across Canada. You will be solving complex challenges in a fast-paced and continuously evolving environment, while championing the direction and evolution of a global integrated team with the parent company.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Responsible for upkeep, monitoring, reliability, stability and maintenance of UPS systems, PDU devices, racks, access cards/keys, alarms, video surveillance, HVAC, environmental monitoring, network patch panels/cabling infrastructure, inventory etc.;
- Change & Project management involving corporate & branch office IT facilities, network/server rooms & colocation datacenters;
- Manage via central platform ensuring continuous operations and coordinating with appropriate parties to schedule maintenance, repair activities;
- Liaising with vendors to manage equipment centrally and taking appropriate action ensuring maintenance levels are met;
- Working with the Network Infra team to repair network related equipment, including patches, WiFi access points, switches, routers, etc.;
- Maintenance of NetOps inventory capturing support contracts and their renewals;
- Working alongside RJL Building Facilities coordinating personnel required for maintenance and IT projects;
- Forward thinking to identify upcoming trends, emerging technologies and evaluating new IT facilities technologies;
- Responsible for up time, monitoring, reliability, BCP/DR, stability and maintenance of supported systems as well as continual assessment of the quality and effectiveness of our network monitoring and alarming;
- Track power shutdowns at all RJL offices to ensure timely action can be taken by IT before and after the shutdown period;
- Record all lock and key locations for all office racks - such that any site visit is easier to coordinate;
- Perform in-person assistance as needed. This would include tasks such as network cabling, patch port testing, UPS power shutdowns, etc.; and
- Send and coordinate IT Communications pertaining to network outages.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of
- HVAC systems work at a basic level.
Skill in
- Coordination between various teams to ensure work gets done; and
- Verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to
- Work effectively with technical and non-technical personnel in a cross-functional setting.
Educational/Previous Experience Requirements
- Minimum 10 years' experience in large-scale enterprise network environments with UPS management systems, battery management, access controls, etc.;
- Cisco CCNA qualification desirable; and
- Project Management qualification desirable.
This is a 12 month contract with the opportunity to convert to a full time role.
