What can you expect in this role?
Reporting to the Manager, Accounting, the Senior Financial Analyst ("SFA") is responsible for providing Finance customers with value-added information and analysis to assist in their decision-making process. The SFA will be a key contributor in delivering accurate monthly results, including:
- Preparation of journal entries and reconciliations while adhering to month end deadlines
- Lead monthly results analysis - ensure completeness and accuracy of results; conduct variance analysis to identify and understand key trends, co-ordinate responses from various stakeholders for variance explanations
- Prepare schedules and analysis to support external reporting disclosures
- Work with a variety of business units to obtain financial information required to book critical month end accruals
- Assist in the coordination and completion of key milestones in the month end close process, including premiums finalization, claims finalization, and validating operating expense results
- Lead issue resolution by working with stakeholders to gather information and propose solutions
- Support external audits by providing interim and year end sample requests, respond to audit inquiries, and conduct process walk throughs
- Assist in the review of month end entries and reconciliations
- Work to continuously enhance current processes and reports in terms of accuracy and efficiency
- Mentor and train junior level analysts, act as a mentor for CPA students
- Lead ad-hoc projects and process improvement initiatives
- Completed university degree, preferably in Accounting, Business Administration or Finance
- CPA designation
- 3-5 years of relevant Finance experience
- Strong MS Excel skills are required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of the organization
- Strong analytical skills and exceptional attention to detail.
- Self-starter who can identify opportunities for improvement and execute on them
- Proven ability to prioritize multiple tasks and meet firm deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to research and analyze complex accounting policies and standards, with specific knowledge and experience with IFRS considered an asset
- Ability to analyze and understand the implications of business activities on the financial statements
- Prior experience in financial services industries in general, and insurance specifically, would be an asset
