The Boys and Girls Club of Brantford helps young people to discover, develop and achieve their best potential by engaging them in activities that challenge and guide them to develop healthy minds and bodies. Our programs promote positive outcomes in education, active living, nutrition and mental health.
OVERVIEW:
The Club provides three Summer Camp programs
- Kindergarten Camp Cicadas for children ages 4 & 5 years (2 locations)
- Camp Kummonanplay for children ages 5 to 12 years of age
Dependent of the ‘governing body’ there may be varying program delivery models or requirements.

The position is responsible for the development and execution of a high energy, exciting, fun and challenging activities for children which incorporate the camp’s philosophy and program goals.
Summer Day CampProgram Philosophy
To provide an educational and recreational experience in which campers can express themselves, learn to cooperatively play with others and function within a group
Summer Day Camp Program Goals
To provide each camper with the opportunity for fun and adventure in a safe and supervised program; encouraging the development of the camper’s physical, mental and emotional skills which contribute to a positive leisure attitude; and, aspiring a sense of social understanding and responsibility in the campers within a peer group.
HOURS:
Monday through Friday - as per working schedule - 40 hours per week
Due to the nature of the Club's business, staff cannot always be confined rigidly to a definite schedule of hours - 'flex' time WILL be required
Education:
Current academic engagement at the Secondary School level and/or Post-Secondary School in Recreation and Leisure/Child & Youth Worker/Teaching or related discipline at college or university level.
Qualifications:
Current First Aid/CPR
Candidate must be 18+ years of age (applicable to MEDU licensed programs)

Experience:
Previous experience working with children 4 & 5 years of age and/or 5-12 years of age
Previous experience in program development, execution and evaluation for summer day camp programs
Responsibilities
- Operate program in compliance with legislative requirements and the guidelines of the Club’s summer day camp philosophy, operational standards and desired outcomes
- Provide an environment and program supplies that are safe and free for any hazards to children
- Update self and other staff of children’s allergies and other special health conditions
- Ensure that program areas and their equipment are maintained in a state that will reflect the high standards of the organization
- Use the program framework to design program content that is specific to creating goals for children that support self-regulation, identity, social inclusion, health and well-being, language & thinking skills and physical literacy
- Ensure program plan provides opportunities for active/quiet, indoor/outdoor and individual and group activities.
- Evaluate programs (soliciting feedback from supervisor, co-leaders, children and families) and make recommendations to modify/enhance programming and improve the effectiveness of meeting developmental, social and cultural needs of children
- Observe and assess children’s progress and behaviour to ensure programs meet identified individual and group needs
- Administer First Aid/CPR as necessary.
- Interact with children and families in a pleasant, positive and professional manner
- Assist with the identification of high-risk/high-need children who may require or benefit from specialized opportunities or services.

- The position has no financial responsibilities
Physical Demands
- There are high physical demands associated with this position such as lifting up to 50lbs, bending, squatting, sitting, twisting, reaching, active program engagement, etc..
Working Conditions
- Position works within a climate controlled facility, however programming requirements will require the position to conduct some job responsibilities in outdoor environments/conditions, aquatics, etc..
- Due to the large number of children & youth serviced the working environment can be extremely loud during peak hours of operation.
- The environment can be fast paced and demanding – position is required to be extremely resourceful, ‘think quick on their feet’, manage multiply tasks and issues, able to prioritize and resolve issues effectively, thoroughly and effectively.
Supervision
- Position is responsible for the direct supervision of children.
Scope
- This position is responsible to provide guidance, mentorship, direct supervision and contribute to the evaluation to the Club’s Summer Leaders-in-Training participants.

Vaccination Requirement
All employees of BGC Brantford are required to be fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus or provide a medical/religious exemption that is suitable to BGCB.
