Hours of work: 40 hours/week Monday-Friday (some evening & weekend work required)

Wage: $15/hour

Position Duration: June 24th-August 16th 2024

Job Summary:
Working as a part of a team to care and maintain the property of Bethany Homes, primarily focused on the garden. You will also be working with staff to promote a safe and healthy environment for the campers as they take part in a variety of activities. Some of these activities will happen directly are your work site and facilitated primarily by you with other supporting staff.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Develop sincere relationships with the children, youth, and staff of the families.
• Communicate (though word and action) a gospel message to the children of our program.
• Work at all special events as they arise, including Open House events, summer day camps, and other events as needed.
• Work with the team at Bethany Homes to provide quality programming for children and youth.
• Perform a variety of garden care responsibilities
• Transport food to Edmonton once a week
• Operate machinery for garden and lawn care.
• Support and coordinate volunteers who assist with the Summer Day Camp.

Programming:

• Lead garden activities for groups of around 12 children or youth.
• Harvest, clean and prepare vegetables for the campers
• Interact with the children and staff in a positive and professional manner.

Administrative:

• Support the programs of Bethany Homes as needed.
• Fill in personal time sheet at the beginning of each shift and sign out at the end of each shift.
• Fill in leave request forms as needed.

Security:

• Converse with children and defuse tempers where necessary, following the Kids in Action policy manual.
• Report any unusual situations (i.e. anything that is broken or open, injuries, etc.)
• Discuss with supervisor or manager anything that is of suspicion that involves the health and safety of the children.

Other:

• Keep areas free of all potential hazards.
• Attend staff meetings, Bible studies, prayer meetings, and staff functions.
• Be aware of Hope Mission/program policy and procedures.
• Special events.
• Miscellaneous duties as required.

Other Requirements:

• Being a Christian Organization we require our employees to be in agreement and sign the Hope Mission Statement of Faith (http://hopemission.com/about-us/values/)
• Must be legally entitled to work in Canada on a full-time basis.
• Able to provide Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
• Alberta Health Services Food Safety Certificate is an asset
• A letter of reference from a ministry or church is an asset
• Adherence to Hope Mission’s Policies and Procedures.
