POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the FCSS Manager, this position is responsible for providing a range of homemaking tasks and practical services that support clients to live in their own home with as much independence as possible. This position provides respite care relief including recreation and social opportunities with the client. This position works closely with municipal staff, agencies, community organizations, and the public including client family members.
WORK RESPONSIBILITIES
Program Administration
- Maintain records including timesheets, billing, and home support and respite care plans
- Notify the client of any changes to the schedule with at least 24 hours’ notice
- Inform the FCSS Manager if a replacement worker is required
- Ensure confidentiality is always observed regarding information relating to clients
- Attend any training opportunities or meetings arranged by Hinton FCSS to enhance skills
- Undertake additional administrative duties as required
Program Delivery
- Provide homemaking support to the client in accordance with the client’s home support plan and errand running plan
- Provide support in installing the Lifeline Monitor based on client’s request and the Individual Supports Coordinator’s/FCSS Manager’s direction
- Provide support and assistance for practical household duties and errands such as laundry and household management. Typical tasks would include, but are not limited to:
- Shopping for clients to buy groceries and household essentials;
- Taking clients on errand runs to the bank, post office, appointments, etc.;
- Clean the kitchen (wipe counters, dishes, empty garbage, mop floors, wipe outside cupboards/fridge/stove, etc.);
- Meal preparation
- Clean bathrooms (sink, tub, inside/outside toilet, mirrors, mop floors, empty garbage);
- Living Room/Dining Room (vacuum, dust, polish, tidy);
- Bedrooms (vacuum, dust, change/make beds, tidy);
- Walls (spot clean);
- Windows (inside only);
- Hallways/Entryway;
- Laundry (sort, wash, dry, iron if requested, put away).
- Provide respite care to the client in accordance with the client’s respite care plan
- Provide support and assistance with recreational and social opportunities in the community. Typical tasks would include, but are not limited to:
- Transporting clients to social and recreational locations
- Providing meaningful social and recreational activities with the client in the house and outside the house
- Report any concerns about client health and safety to the FCSS Manager
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum age of 18 years
- High School Diploma or GED
- Completion or working towards Health Care Aid (HCA) Nursing Attendant Certificate and/or Respite Care courses/certificate is preferred
- Experience in providing support and care to seniors and adults with mobility challenges and/or developmental delays
- Working knowledge of computers and systems, and Microsoft Office Suite
- Valid First Aid and CPR Certificate
- Completion of the Safe Food Handling Certificate
- Maintaining current immunizations is strongly recommended
- Satisfactory background screening is required for this position including a Criminal Record Check, Vulnerable Sector Check, and Child Welfare Check
- A Class 5 Driver’s License with a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract
- Use of personal vehicle and proof of liability insurance required

WORKING CONDITIONS

Hours
Able to work flexible shifts including mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends as required.
Physical Effort
Service provision to clients, including moderate lifting (up to 10 kg), sitting, walking, standing, pushing, pulling, reaching, driving, carrying.
Travel
Some travel to field sites within and outside the Town under various road and weather conditions. Must maintain alertness and respond appropriately using defensive driving skills in various conditions (traffic, weather, distractions).
Work Environment
Performance of duties entails meeting with a client at their home location. Significant exposure to the public in a service provision capacity.
