Position Title: Summer Student - Business Intelligence Analyst (4-Month Term)

Team and Location: Retail - Calgary AB

Position Summary:

The BI Analyst Summer Student will play a pivotal role in supporting the design and delivery of scalable and insightful dashboards, tools, and accompanying analytical processes during their 4-month term at Parkland. Working closely with the BI team, the student will contribute to elevating Parkland's capabilities in accurate, timely, and data-driven decision-making.

Key Responsibilities:

Performance Analytics:

  • Create tools and intellectual property to enhance data, analysis, and intelligence on business performance, competitors, and market dynamics.

  • Assist in defining and implementing metrics, processes, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to ensure the achievement of both business performance and operational goals.
  • Apply data transformation logic to clean and filter data for use in reports, visualizations, and self-serve data analytics.

  • Transform diverse data sources into engaging visuals and interactive dashboards, unveiling trends and actionable insights to inform and guide business decisions.

Communications: 

  • Provide support to stakeholders at all organizational levels regarding business performance, decision-making, special projects, and the evolution of performance optimization capabilities.
  • Assist in the adoption of analytical tools and interfaces by providing training, designing processes, and establishing KPIs in collaboration with internal stakeholders.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • You are available for a 4-month term beginning on or around May of 2024.
  • You are currently enrolled in a post-secondary degree program emphasizing Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, or Systems and Applications. Examples include Management Science, Commerce programs with analytics focus, Computer/Data Science, or related programs.
  • You are proficient in translating complex data into user-friendly dashboards and reports.
  • You possess business acumen, capable of forming hypotheses, manipulating large datasets, and providing conclusive recommendations.
  • You have a desire to develop reusable tools and analytical techniques.
  • You embrace a "One and Done" attitude, eliminating re-work risks in analyses.
  • You have business and financial acumen, strong analytical skills for insightful recommendations.
  • You have innate desire to contribute to intellectual property, ensuring efficiency in work processes.
  • You have exceptional interpersonal skills and possess natural leadership as demonstrated in academic and/or extracurricular activities.
  • You have highly developed verbal and written communication skills to enable you to thrive in a challenging and exciting work environment.
  • You are a creative and analytical thinker with some project management skills who is self-driven and capable of working in a fast-paced environment.
  • You have tenacity and an entrepreneurial spirit, and are passionate about seeking out win-win solutions.
  • You have strong MS Office skills including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • You will be part of a global team and must be able to work effectively through a high degree of collaboration and communication through in-person meetings and video conferences.
