We are a family living in Pickering, looking for a personable, positive, patient and kind Support Assistant to engage our 8 year old son in meaningful ways for two hours after school every day between 2:30-4:30pm (Mon-Fri). Our son is active and energetic, enjoys the outdoors, and is excited to see and learn new things. We’re looking for someone to support him in exploring interests, getting out in our community and building relationships.
Areas of Responsibility:
- Meet our son at the school bus each afternoon and prepare him a healthy snack
- Organize and plan your dedicated time with our son in ways that are congruent with his interests
- Keep time together interesting to encourage engagement in activities
- Contribute toward maintaining a positive environment that encourages progress by working effectively with our family
- Safely accompany our son on walks to the local park and other destinations
- Be a bridge in developing relationships with other children his age in our community
- Comfortable with setting boundaries and structure
Key Requirements:
- Previous experience as a support worker and working with children with developmental disabilities
- Enjoy walking, running, being outdoors and active in community
- Completion of Vulnerable Sector Police Check
- Ability to commute to Pickering
- Valid G driver’s license and access to a vehicle would be an asset
Required Availability: Monday to Friday 2:30-4:30pm
Rate of Pay: $21/hr
This is a self-employed independent Support Worker role working directly with the family. Scheduling, guidance, and orientation are done in partnership with family and the independent contractor. Commitment to a weekly schedule is required.
