Job Summary:
The function of the Supported Child Development Program Consultant is to support the inclusion of children who require additional support in childcare settings chosen by their families; to strengthen and support families in their role as decision-makers on behalf of their children and themselves; and to facilitate the development and implementation of individual plans for children that reflect the choices and priorities identified by their families. For more duties please refer to full job description. This position reports to the Supported Child Development Coordinator.


Education, Training and Experience

  • BA in Early Childhood Education (ECD) or early childhood development related field - child and youth care, psychology, social work, education. SCDP/IDP Certificate program offered through UBC or equivalent may be accepted.
  • Minimum 3 years work experience in inclusive childcare and the community social services sector with a demonstrated working knowledge of family-centered service, early intervention, Child Development, family support, and community-based services
  • Direct experience with Supported Child Development and experience working within a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with family-centered practice early intervention, Child Development, family support and community-based services

Qualifications: Skills and Abilities

  • Strong interpersonal and oral/written communication skills
    Skills administering a range of formal and informal developmental assessment tools
    Ability to work independently and to manage time and workload effectively
    Ability to maintain confidentiality
    Ability to maintain a positive, professional, non-judgmental attitude
    Knowledge of community childcare resources and other community support services
    Knowledge of multicultural issues and culturally appropriate practices
    Computer literacy (virtual platform)
    Knowledge and skills in adult training

  • Valid drivers’ license and available vehicle/transportation with adequate insurance (use of own vehicle required)
  • Positive role model, including modeling a healthy lifestyle
  • Empathy, warmth, and understanding
  • Ability to work effectively with families, colleagues, volunteers, and organizations

Advocacy:

  • To advocate for individual clients and families so they obtain needed support
  • To support families in advocating for their child
  • To advocate for support and change within the systems that affect children and families

Please Note:

  • The successful candidate will begin employment at the Banks Rd building, Monday to Thursday 8:30 – 16:00
  • This position will require a valid B.C. Driver’s License and use of personal vehicle for transportation
  • This position is open to all qualified individuals and requires Union membership
  • This position will remain open until a qualified candidate is found
  • This position is subject to backfill for an individual on leave and will be cancelled with two weeks’ notice
