Reporting to the Community and Public Relations Manager. The Team Leader, Community Relations is responsible for developing, implementing and managing strategic approaches to stakeholder engagement and community development towards successful outcomes in maintaining and enhancing Red Dog’s social performance.
This position will be located in the Anchorage Teck office; work schedule will be Monday - Friday 8am-5pm.
Responsibilities:
Community Relations
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Develop, implement and manage a Community Relations strategy consistent with company standards and international commitments for Red Dog Operations and for the State Lands (Anarraaq & Aktigiruq) Exploration project
- Develop, implement and manage Communities of Interest (COI) engagement plans for the operation and project
- Create and/or maintain appropriate points of contact between the company and identified community stakeholders to establish and maintain respectful and trusting relationships and dialogue
- Maintain and track information on community stakeholders, interested or potentially affected groups and their interests, concerns and opportunities
- Facilitate inclusive opportunities on an on-going basis for information sharing, consultation, informed participation and education with community stakeholders
- Manage the community grievance and feedback system
- Monitor and evaluate activities and provide accurate and timely reports on activities, issues, concerns and interests to company decision makers
- Provide extensive support for the execution of the Strategic/Business Plan for external relations, communications, and sustainability initiatives to enhance Red Dog’s reputation and move toward more sustainable practices
- Support the implementation of administrative and governance management systems including key performance metrics
- Assist in the identification and cultivation of strategic alliances with communities, non-government organizations, and other Communities of Interest
- Use of key social elements to drive social risks and impacts related to the Project and the use of that information to better formulate engagement strategies
- Other related duties as assigned
Community Development
- Develop, implement and manage a Community Development strategy, including sustainable community development programs, consistent with company standards and international commitment
- Conduct community needs and resource assessments and participatory research to identify community priorities and inform program development
- Support the execution of social and community baseline data collection and impact assessments to identify impacts and opportunities
- Create a fair and open process to identify and select participant groups, activities, programs and potential partners to achieve community development goals
- Facilitate the participation of community stakeholders in sustainable community development activities and foster partnerships with other service providers
- Implement, monitor and evaluate sustainable community development programs
- Create metrics for regular monitoring and evaluation of community development activities and programs
- Ensure record-keeping of activities, interactions, communications, issues and outcomes
- Provide accurate and timely reports on activities, issues and outcomes to company decision makers
- Provide relief for the Manager, Community Relations when needed
Qualifications:
- Degree in Social Sciences or related discipline
- Ten (10) years’ experience in direct community relations and engagement experience with knowledge of relevant approaches and methodologies
- Experienced in sustainability and resource development in multi-stakeholder, collaborative environments
- Demonstrated planning, organizing and program design experience and associated program and management skills.
- Excellent communication, facilitation and interpersonal skills and experience of working co-operatively with a broad range of community stakeholders
- Demonstrated planning, organizing and program design experience and associated program and management skills
- Computer skills, with advance knowledge and experience in Microsoft Office, Excel, and PowerPoint, applications
- High level of integrity, respect and solutions-focused with a commitment to respectful and inclusive community engagement
- Knowledge of Alaska Native cultures is an asset
- Experience working with indigenous people in remote communities is an asset
- Understanding of and experience in the extractives industry and projects, especially mining is an asset
