Reporting to the Economic Development and Communications Officer, the Tourism and Communications Assistant will directly contribute to the effective and proactive delivery of communication for the Corporation and the town.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with the administration and day to day operations of the Visitor Centre.
- Work with all departments to ensure content is accurate, up to date and relevant on the corporate website and other social media channels.
- Assist with external communications strategies and implement proactive communication planning including all print, broadcast, and electronic publications including e-newsletters.
- Support the Marina and Recreation Coordinator in the collection of all necessary documentation relating to special events and facility rental reservations.
- The incumbent will also be responsible for fostering positive working relationships with community groups, residents, and other stakeholders.
- Support the economic development department by developing ways to enhance opportunities within the Town, though Tourism and event initiatives.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Post-Secondary Education in Communications, Public Relations, Graphic Design, or related discipline
- 1-2 years of related experience.
- Demonstrated ability to write press releases, conduct research, and update website and social media content.
- Liaise effectively and cooperatively, with other staff, local businesses, municipalities, government agencies and other organizations.
- Ability to deal with all contacts in a courteous, friendly, and efficient manner to promote a high standard of customer service and public relations.
- Strong work ethic, ability to work independently and in a team environment.
- Excellent administrative, organizational, and time management skills.
- Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills.
- Ability to multitask, cope with interruptions, and work under pressure to meet multiple deadlines.
- Proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office applications, social media platforms, graphic design software and office equipment.
The 2024 Salary range for this position is $40,970 - $48,776.
