Duncan Housing Society is a local, community-based, non-profit society. The overall purpose of the society is to provide Independent Housing for seniors and persons with disabilities as tenants, at Duncan Manor.
The Position: We are looking for a Part-time Maintenance Technician to join our team. Reporting to the Building Coordinator, your responsibilities include ensuring that repairs and maintenance work to the interior and exterior of the Duncan Manor building are completed in a quality and timely manner. This role is also required to respond to emergency calls during working hours and to be on-call for scheduled evenings.
Responsibilities
- Grounds Maintenance:
Maintains all properties' grounds per established guidelines and timeframes; maintains lawns and yards in acceptable conditions; clears sidewalks of snow and ice and applies sand/salt as required to ensure safe conditions are maintained.
- Building Maintenance:
Makes necessary repairs, as assigned; coordinates external contractors to perform repairs, as required. Maintains safety standards established for all buildings and performs assigned preventative maintenance tasks. Respond to emergency calls related to damage to the interior or exterior of New View facilities and either make repairs or escalate to management for satisfactory resolution.
- Custodial Support
Performs custodial tasks and completes work within established guidelines and time frames.
Requirements
- Experience in building maintenance, repairs and grounds keeping,
- Criminal record clearance,
- Previous janitorial experience is an asset but not mandatory,
- Ability to organize/prioritize tasks and work independently or as a team,
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills,
- Must be physically and mentally able to complete all required job tasks. Lifting and carrying heavy loads is required,
- Must demonstrate flexibility and willingness to be involved in all aspects of the agency,
- Must have a current Class 5 driving license and own vehicle would be an asset,
- Willing to learn new skills related to home maintenance, and
- Experience working with seniors and persons with disabilities is an asset.
