SALARY: $67,756- $79,725

ACCOUNTABILITY STATEMENT:

The Writer and Content Advisor is a seasoned writer who works collaboratively with a team of analysts, planners, and operational leads to draft, refine and edit corporate publications such as the Annual Report and grant proposals. This role will ensure that external communications are consistent, accurate, polished, and meet provincial reporting requirements. The Writer and Content Advisor will also work on creative projects to generate compelling blogposts, video scripts, social media posts, speaking notes and more.

MAJOR DUTIES/ RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Coordinate, compile, and edit corporate documents including the annual report.
  • Collaborate closely with the Finance team, Project Management Office, Executive Agency Modernization Lead and Marketing and Communications team.
  • Present gathered information cohesively, in a consistent tone, voice and style.
  • Meet regularly with government counterparts to produce a production schedule for these documents and coordinate draft versions.
  • Ensures the published document meets all current accessibility standards.
  • Ensures review and publication deadlines are met.
  • Research, lead, write and submit grant and funding applications on behalf of Ontario Northland.
  • Works with the Communications and Issues Management Specialist to pitch announcement opportunities to MTO about funding.
  • Refines Business Cases that are submitted to the MTO for funding, ensuring that they are consistent and written professionally.
  • Conducts detailed review, editing, tracking of materials prepared - ensuring they are consistent, on-brand, clear, accurate and relevant.
  • Create templates and tools to assist others in creating content.
  • Operationalize content marketing efforts and drive forward effective storytelling.
  • Lead content strategy and monthly content reviews with content creators and channel owners
  • Collects and submits list of important dates and engagement activities to senior team and MTO weekly.
  • Further develop Ontario Northland's brand voice, writing style and educate others by developing tools and templates.
  • Assists with public facing events, announcements, stakeholder engagement, etc., as required.
  • Writes speaking notes for executives and board members.
  • Conducts environmental scanning activities and creates reports on relevant topics.
  • Proofread correspondence and documents, providing suggestions and advice to others.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • University Degree in Business Administration/Management, Marketing, Public Administration, or Communications.
  • 5+ years of experience in marketing, communications, grant writing or business planning.
  • Strong computer skills with intermediate experience with Microsoft products including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience using AI writing tools.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills, capable of writing in different tones for different audiences.
  • Experience working in a communication, non-profit, business, public sector or educational settings.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating corporate documents or government reports/materials (annual reports, executive summaries, briefing notes, speeches, etc.)
  • Strong planning, organization, and project management skills.
  • Commitment to maintaining high standards of quality, including meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong team player: able to work collaboratively, take responsibility, and understand their role in building positive public perception of the organization.
  • Sound strategic judgement and flexibility to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with a wide range of individuals across all levels of the organization and with external community stakeholders.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and be respectful of sensitive and confidential information.
  • Knowledge of AODA and privacy legislation and other legislative requirements
  • Valid driver's license
