Assistant Principal
Northern Gateway Public Schools is inviting applications from accomplished, visionary leaders who are interested in joining Northern Gateway Public Schools in the following position:
Assistant Principal at Mayerthorpe Jr/Sr High School
Reporting directly to the Principal, Assistant Principals are members of a team of skilled, committed, talented and progressive educators in an environment of site-based decision making.
The Assistant Principal will have a part-time teaching assignment which will be determined based on education, experience and school programming needs.
The Assistant Principalship to be filled, Mayerthorpe Jr/Sr High School, is located in the town of Mayerthorpe, Alberta, a rural agriculture town with a population of 1320. The surrounding outdoors provides a variety of recreational adventures for all ages. A selection of wellness, medical, fitness and social amenities are available in the town and surrounding area. The school has a student population of 280 grades 7 -12 students. Current staffing at the school includes 15 FTE teaching positions and 8 support staff positions.
The successful candidate will:
have a valid Alberta Teaching Certificate
work collegially and collaboratively with the Principal
work with the Principal, school staff, students and the school council to support community engagement that will foster a collaborative school vision via the School Advancement Plan and school culture
support and cultivate teachers application of the domains of the NGPS Quality Learning Environment (QLE)
based on Inclusive Education practices, demonstrate a commitment to student achievement through a focus on curriculum-instruction-assessment and the Teaching Quality Standard
demonstrate a commitment to student achievement through a focus on literacy and numeracy programming, support and intervention
demonstrate a commitment to student achievement and success through a focus on the Collaborative Team Meeting (CTM) process
have successful junior/senior high school teaching experience and school-based leadership experience
work with school staff team to enhance staff wellness, and team development and spirit
have experience with or extensive knowledge of off-campus programming, including Work Experience and Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP)
foster and build community partnerships that provide opportunities for student development and success
demonstrate outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and
have a related Master Degree or enrolled in, with a specified completion date
Preference will be given to applicants who have demonstrated excellence in the nine leadership competencies outlined in The Leadership Quality Standard:
