JOB SUMMARY:
· The Assistant Professor of Communication Sciencesand Disorders (tenured-track or non-tenure) is responsible for the continued development and implementation of graduate and undergraduate Communication Sciences and Disorders curricula. As part of the Commination Sciences and Disorders Program, the faculty member will participate in the graduate SLP program accreditation process, contribute to the service of the program, the department, the college, and the University. The Assistant Professor of Communication Sciencesand Disorders with be responsible for pursuing and achieving excellence in teaching, research, and service.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES / CRITICAL TASKS:
· TEACHING A VARIETY OF UNDERGRADUATE COURSES
o 9 CREDITS PER SEMESTER (18 CREDITS PER YEAR) IF TENURE-TRACK
o 12 CREDITS (24 CREDITS PER YEAR) IF NON-TENURE
o GRADUATE COURSE ASSIGNMENT WILL INCLUDE: MOTOR SPEECH DISORDERS, DYSPHAGIA, AAC AND COGNITIVE COMMUNICATION DISORDERS
· CONDUCTING SCHOLARLY RESEARCH
· SERVICE TO THE DEPARTMENT AND SERVICE TO CAMPUS COMMUNITY
· ASSISTING WITH ACCREDITATION, PROGRAM SELF-ASSESSMENT, AND OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES AS ASSIGNED BY THE PROGRAM DIRECTOR
ACCOMPANYING KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES:
· AT LEAST THREE YEARS OF CLINICAL EXPERIENCE
· EXCELLENT INTERPERSONAL SKILLS AND TEAM PARTICIPATION
· EXCELLENT VERBAL AND WRITTEN LANGUAGE SKILLS
· EVIDENCE OF EITHER AN ESTABLISHED LINE OF RESEARCH OR POTENTIAL TO ESTABLISH ONE AND OBTAIN EXTERNAL FUNDING
REQUIRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
· EARNED TERMINAL DEGREE (PHD. OR DOCTORATE) IN SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY/CSD
· ASHA CERTIFICATION IN SPEECH-LANGUAGE PATHOLOGY
· TEXAS LICENSURE IN SLP, OR ELIGIBILITY FOR LICENSURE
PREFERRED EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
· A MINIMUM OF 3 YEARS OF DIRECT CLINICAL WORK WITH ADULTS WHO HAVE MOTOR SPEECH DISORDER, DYSPHASIA, APHASIA, AND COGNITIVE COMMUNICATION DISORDERS
· 3 YEARS OF UNIVERSITY TEACHING EXPERIENCE
o WILL CONSIDER NEW DOCTORAL GRADUATES WITH OUTSTANDING RECORD
· EXPERIENCE WITH AAC
· FLEXIBILITY TO TEACH NEW COURSES AS NEEDED
