Job Summary

The Agriculture, Science and Policy Division provides surveillance, diagnostic services and management systems including licensing and inspection to monitor and improve plant and animal health; and for creation and delivery of industry initiatives, including research and innovation. The Division also provides for planning, establishing and coordinating federal-provincial trade (FPT) agreements, legislation and regulations related to a competitive and profitable agriculture sector and for agriculture policy.
The Director, Legislation is responsible for directing, managing, reviewing and providing strategic advice on the Ministry’s legislative program consistent with Ministry and government policy, strategic objectives and accountability measures.

Job Requirements:

  • Master’s degree from a university of recognized standing in law, public administration, business administration, resource management or agriculture or a related discipline plus at least two (2) years management experience, including setting goals, objectives, priorities and work plans. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.
  • Experience managing professional staff, project teams and budgets.
  • Experience working with senior government officials, senior level professionals and a wide range of partners.
  • Experience in planning, developing and implementing significant policy and legislative changes.

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Experience dealing with senior government officials and external partners on challenging, contentious or complex issues.

About this Position:
This position can be based in a Natural Resource Sector office. The locations listed above are to assist applicants in searching for this opportunity and are not a complete list of locations.
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to two (2) days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
This position is excluded from union membership.
