In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.

Job Summary
The Business Analyst I is responsible for supporting requirements definition, business process analysis and design, functional design, configuration, implementation, testing, training, and documentation for projects and services delivered by Arts Instructional Support and Information Technology (ISIT). The incumbent works with faculty, staff, and students to align business initiatives with technological solutions.
Organizational Status
The Business Analyst I will be part of a team that works closely with Arts ISIT staff and senior management to support the successful delivery of projects and services for the administrative, teaching, and research needs for approximately thirty departments, schools, and units, supporting over 1,000 faculty, 600 staff, and 13,000 students across the Faculty of Arts.
Reports to the Associate Director, Service Strategy & Design; interacts directly with Heads of departments, faculty, staff, and students; liaises and collaborates with vendors, external commercial consultants, as well as additional UBC service partners.
Work Performed
- Consults with stakeholders to carry out business process assessments utilizing a structured requirements process (gathering, analyzing, documenting, and managing changes) to identify business priorities.
- Documents business requirements and the definition of business rules.
- Prepares functional, system and program specifications.
- Responsible for planning workshops, interviews, and surveys, preparing materials, communications, and leading implementation.
- Consolidates and reviews information gathered through various requirements gathering processes, summarizing findings, and presenting to stakeholders and senior management.
- Analyses the impacts of proposed changes to services and/or processes for Arts ISIT and client stakeholders.
- Provides input to project documentation and status reports by documenting requirements and business priorities, providing estimates on required resourcing and capabilities, and defining processes.
- Acquires working knowledge of the university's technical and business environment.
- Builds and maintains good working relationships with functional teams, management, and client stakeholders.
- Participates in the assessment of new processes and/or technologies to support business goals.
- Maintains appropriate professional designations and up-to-date knowledge of current information technology techniques and tools.
- Performs other related duties as required.
Consequence of Error/Judgement
Errors in judgment may result in the inefficient use of resources, damage to the image and reputation of Arts ISIT and the Faculty of Arts, and impact the unit's ability to meet its operational and strategic objectives.
Supervision Received
Reports to the Associate Director, Service Strategy & Design, and receives direction from senior managers. Work is reviewed in terms of achievement of specific objectives.
Supervision Given
May involve limited supervision of student staff.
Minimum Qualifications
Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline. Minimum of two years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Professional development in business analysis and related disciplines is an asset. Experience in at least one of the following is an asset: IT, service/help desk, project management, higher education. Demonstrated understanding of key technical environments and ability to effectively identify integration, security, scalability, and performance requirements. Ability to effectively facilitate groups to achieve appropriate outcome. Knowledge of project management, quality assurance, change management disciplines and best practices, development methodologies, data analysis and data modeling conceptual, logical, and business process re-engineering / improvement. Good organizational, planning, and prioritization skills. Able to multi-task and deliver multiple assignments in a fast-paced and changing environment. Demonstrates the willingness, ability, and enthusiasm to learn new processes, methodologies or technologies. Enthusiastic about contributing to the learning environment of the University.
