The Parkland School Division has openings for Casual Support Staff, we are currently accepting resumes only for casual Education Assistants.

Position Summary

Casual Education Assistants support our teachers in various educational settings by assisting our students who have a wide range of abilities and exceptionalities including; autism, significant emotional and behavioural challenges, mental health issues, learning difficulties and physical health concerns.

Nature of Work

Casual: Hourly, on-call work up to 7 hours per day, Monday to Friday

Rate of Pay: $18.70 per hour

Key Job Duties/ responsibilities :

• support the instructional, behavioural and social needs of students in an increasingly complex environment
• adapting or modifying classroom materials to meet the specialized needs of students
• assisting students to acquire skills in the areas of communication and language development
• facilitating and encouraging positive interactions between students, staff and the community
• monitoring student conduct and intervening when students engage in challenging behaviours
• supervise students during break periods, bus arrival and departure
• ability to perform physical activities including lifting and student transfers (i.e. floor to chair, standing transfers as needed per weight of student)
• to assist with personal care (i.e. toileting, feeding, dressing)

Education and Experience :

• Experience working with children who demonstrate challenging behaviors and communication delays
• Child and Youth Care Diploma or Certificate would be an asset
• Education Assistant Diploma or Certificate would be an asset
• Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Certificate is an asset
• Ability to work using a team approach in a complex environment is imperative
• Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
