Description
Under the general supervision of the Library Director, the Library Services Assistant is responsible for all aspects of circulation services and readers’ advisory.
Responsibilities
- Perform service desk duties, including but not limited to circulation, reference/readers advisory, supervising pages, and scanner/photocopier assistance.
- Assist patrons using public access computers, eBook and audiobook services, and library databases as needed.
- Manage the Library on evening and weekend shifts.
- Sort, repair, clean and shelve books.
- Prepare Interlibrary Loan and Interlibrary Connect items for mailing.
- Collect and record library statistics for BC One returns.
- Assist with other library duties as required.
Required knowledge, ability and skills
- Strong computer skills.
- Excellent knowledge of integrated library systems and a high level of attention to detail.
- Ability to deal courteously, effectively and efficiently with the public and maintain effective working relationships with other employees.
- Detail oriented with good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to undertake moderate physical activities that may include bending, reaching and lifting moderate weight.
- Operation of common equipment such as the self-checkout, public computers and photocopiers.
Desirable training and experience
- Library Technician diploma OR equivalent library training and experience in a library preferred.
Hours, Salary & Benefits
29.50 per hour plus 13.5% in lieu of benefits as per CUPE contract.
Hours: Saturdays 12-5 plus on-call. Shifts vary to cover holiday time and may include evenings and full Saturday hours.
