Daily Rate: $103.50 - $125.00 Weekly Rate: $621.00 - $750.00


Location: YMCA Camp Pine Crest, Torrance, Ontario (Transportation to camp is available at the beginning and end of the summer)


Work Hours: Must be available to work 6 days a week between Monday – Sunday, with days off predetermined by supervisor

YMCA Camping and Outdoor Education offers outdoor experiences that foster personal growth and build community. After taking part in our programs, children and youth return home more confident, independent, and with new friendships. YMCA Camp Pine Crest is an overnight camp serving children, families, and organizations through naturally focussed programs that embody the mission, vision, and outcomes of the YMCA. Camp Pine Crest is made up of 650 acres of Muskoka wilderness surrounded by 3 interconnected lakes with 8km of shoreline; has over 26km of hiking trails and 7,500 sq. ft. of dock, and has 60 buildings.

Prep Cooks play an important role in planning, preparing, and presenting meals for the entire camp. Prep Cooks will mainly be based out of the main dining hall (Kekindewin) throughout the summer, preparing 3 meals daily for campers and staff. Prep cooks will work a specific station each day. Stations consist of Baking, Dietary Prep, Salad bar, Serving etc. They are also responsible for maintaining a clean and healthy kitchen in accordance with the Ministry of Health.

In this role, you will:

  • Prepare and serve camp meals with the kitchen team in a fun and efficient way.
  • Maintain a high level of food safety practices; role modeling and ensuring all team members are following food safety practices, and camp policies and procedures
  • Support with maintaining a clean kitchen; including washing dishes as required
  • Continuously builds relationships with members, staff, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Understand and work with a variety of participant dietary needs such as vegetarian, vegan, celiac, halal, dairy allergies, etc.
  • Responsible for attending all staff trainings and meetings; showing up on time, and actively participating contributing to the development of all staff members
  • Ensure Health & Safety procedure, including outbreak management guidelines, are being followed and maintained; and shares with the staff team the duties of ensuring is clean, organized and safe to ensure the health & safety of all camper, staff and volunteers
  • Act as a positive role model for all participants and fellow staff through embodying the values of the YMCA, Pine Crest’s guiding principles, YMCA policies and procedure, and Ontario Camps Association guidelines
  • Continuously builds relationships with members, staff, volunteers and community partners.
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • Focus on the health, safety and wellbeing of all children, youth, and vulnerable people in YMCA programs including understanding legal and moral obligations related to reporting suspected child abuse to Child Protection Services

You bring:

  • Standard First Aid & CPR-C, and Food Handler Certificate required by the first day of employment and valid until at least the last day of your contract
  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) considered an asset
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada and be authorized to work full time hours (37.5 hours per week)
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and be adaptable to change
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and detailed oriented
  • Excellent and communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work in a team environment and independently to achieve optimal collective results
  • Well-developed interpersonal, and relationship building skills; ability to establish rapport and excellent communication with members, staff and volunteers
  • Ability to provide mentorship and guidance to both inexperienced and seasoned staff
  • Ability to deliver feedback in a timely, professional, and constructive manner
  • Flexibility regarding assigned working hours, including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays required
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and building a sense of belonging
