Safety Technician Unionized Positions: This is a contract position (if there are business needs it could be extended or decrease)

(Must be eligible to sign on with the Carpenters Local 1256)
The ideal candidate will be a responsible individual who is dependable and flexible. Your work will be largely focused on prevention, operational safety, to review processes and activate learned principles onsite. You will need to be conscientious, farsighted and act as the in-person contact representing Sentry for onsite safety. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and ready to act in emergencies. The goal is to establish a safe workplace according to site standards, compliance with provincial and local regulations and company specific policies and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Collect data on safety and overall health surroundings
· Conduct tests and measure hazards
· Evaluate equipment to ensure workers and managers adhere to government and onsite regulations
· Demonstrate proper use of safety equipment
· While on each shift responsible for: spark watch, bottle watch, safety watch
· Monitor air and asses’ hazards throughout shift
· Rescue when needed in emergency situations
· Recognize safety hazards and know how to apply solutions before they turn into an emergency
· Record, maintain all health and safety records required from onsite regulations as well as from Sentry
Training and Experience: All training will be provided to those needed in the following areas below. Candidates with training/education or an equivalent of education and experience will be evaluated on their individual skill.
· BSO training (preferred)
· Site Specific Orientation (preferred)
· WHIMS (preferred)
· Safety watch, bottle watch, spark watch, confined space (preferred)
· Driver License
·Must be eligible to sign on with the Carpenters Local 1256, cannot be part of any other Union
· Ability to pass a Police Record Check upon offer of hire
· Willing to work a variety of shifts – days, afternoons, nights, causal call in
· Available mid March
· Contract: Start date, mid March
