Position Summary:
Reporting to the Manager of Communications & Engagement, the Digital Media Coordinator is responsible for the Rocky View County e-newsletter and social media presence, developing visually compelling content that translates knowledge, tells stories, and inspires meaningful conversations with the County and the residents we serve.
The ideal candidate has a critical eye and keen aptitude for creating compelling storytelling content. You have a collaborative style with the ability to convey clear, concise, and audience-specific communication tactics.

Core Accountabilities:
Social Media Marketing
- Create, implement, and assess social media strategies that promote effective communication with residents to increase engagement and awareness.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure social media support is in place for department campaigns, events, and day-to-day operations.
- Ensure that news, events, and updates are shared on social channels in a timely manner. Attend events and produce live social media content as required.
- Coordinate necessary photo and video shoots to support social media campaigns.
- Assist in the development and oversee the implementation of Social Media Procedures.
- Interact with users and respond to social media messages, inquiries, and comments.
E-Newsletters
- Create, review, and distribute external communications materials using e-newsletter software.
- Ensure acceptable quality, accuracy, and effectiveness of e-newsletter communications by following the County’s style and visual identity guidelines.
- Assist in the distribution of public notices.
Media Monitoring
- Conduct daily monitoring of social networking channels.
- Regularly review the digital space for industry trends and issues management.
- Use media monitoring software to generate and distribute coverage reports to internal stakeholders.
Research and Analysis
- Implement measurement tools for all social media and e-newsletter initiatives.
- Conduct trend analysis on digital campaigns and make recommendations based on analysis and best practice research.
- Use social listening tools, review analytics, and create reports on key metrics and sentiment.
Communication
- Create impactful content for various platforms including content stories, social media, campaigns, emails, social ad copy, and various other copywriting tasks as assigned.
- Support the implementation and development of an organization-wide editorial calendar.
General
- Maintain an understanding of best practices and emerging developments in digital media through education, study, and participation in conferences, workshops, and groups.
- Participate as required in the County’s emergency response plans as a member of the Public Information Officer team.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Position Requirements:
Completion of a degree, diploma, or certificate in Communications, Marketing, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field with a minimum 3 years of progressive and relevant experience.
You are a collaborative team member with a desire to support your colleagues while being comfortable working independently to achieve results. You are dependable, flexible, and resourceful with exceptional communication skills.
Your demonstrated proficiency with content-management, email marketing, and fully integrated digital-traditional communications includes:
- Strong knowledge in Social Studio, Hootsuite, Buffer, Sprout Social, or other social media scheduling and monitoring tools.
- Intermediate level skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends as needed.
Additional knowledge will be considered an asset in:
- Local government.
- Photography and video production.
- Adobe Creative Suite and Google Analytics.
- Knowledge of Meltwater, Cision, or other media monitoring tools.
