Description

The IslandLink Library Federation (ILLF) has an exciting opportunity for a self-directed and skilled leader to be responsible for the daily operations of IslandLink, support and facilitate collaborative partnership activities of member libraries and ensure the organization achieves its strategic goals and objectives.

Employment Status: Part-time employment, approx. 17.5 hours per week

Office: The Federation operates from a home office to be maintained by the Director

Qualifications / Competencies:

  • strong administration, organizational, and time management skills
  • demonstrated ability to work both independently and within team structures
  • skill in developing and implementing action plans
  • the ability to achieve short term deadlines and long term goals
  • strong written and oral communication skills
  • ability to perform and/or oversee book-keeping and payroll functions
  • demonstrated ability to recruit and supervise support staff as employees or on a contract basis as needed to ensure the goals of the Federation are met
  • has an understanding of relevant legislation and the community environment
  • competent computer skills and a willingness to stay apprised of current and emerging trends and technologies

Education: Recognized Library Education preferred (MLIS or Lib. Tech. Dip.) or an equivalent combination of library-related education and experience

Experience: Experience in one or more of the following areas:

  • library / information- based services
  • management within a non-profit organization such as reporting to a variety of stakeholders.
  • policy and plan development
  • government relations

Duties and Responsibilities:

Office and Member Services

  • to carry out the initiatives, goals and plans of the Federation.
  • to oversee the day to day operation of the Federation
  • to assess the effectiveness of the Federation’s Strategic Plan and recommend changes to the Federation Board and the Library Directors’ Advisory Group (LDAG)
  • to act as liaison to all member libraries and committees of the Federation Board
  • to communicate with and regularly report to the Chairperson and LDAG
  • to work with the Public Libraries Branch, other federations and other organizations locally, regionally and provincially to achieve common goals
  • to act as secretary to the Federation Board and in cooperation with the Chairperson, prepare agendas for meetings
  • to prepare reports for the Federation, including the annual Provincial Grant Report
  • to make necessary arrangements for meetings of the Federation Board, the LDAG and other committees/teams
  • to draft policy and procedures for the Federation and present same to the Federation Board and LDAG for approval
  • to plan workshops, programs, author tours, and speakers as requested by the member libraries and/or Federation Board
  • to oversee and monitor the development of the Federation’s Web site ensuring accuracy and currency of information
  • to maintain the Federation files and passwords
  • to negotiate with vendors and seek new services / product suppliers as required
  • to perform additional services as directed by the Federation Board

Financial Management

  • to assist in the preparation of the annual budget and administer same
  • to seek additional funding as required
  • to perform or oversee book-keeping functions including:
    • receipt and verification of invoices
    • management of accounts receivable and payable
    • issuing cheques
    • payroll
    • monthly banking reconciliation
    • financial reporting to the Federation Board

Reporting Relationship: The Director reports to the Chairperson of the IslandLink Library Federation Board.

Salary and benefits: $35.00 - $37.00 per hour, (approx. 17.5 hours a week) plus a percentage in lieu of benefits. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
