Job description

Are you interested in a new and challenging career? We are looking for a Ethics Investigator/Analyst to be responsible for conducting investigations and risk assessments related to third parties with whom CNL deals, as well as conducting workplace investigations related to allegations of violations of CNL’s Code of Conduct. Does the idea of creating objective, detailed, confidential and legally defensible investigation reports to enable management and Human Resources to take appropriate remediation actions appeal to you? What you will be doing!
  • Monitoring and tracking compliance/ethics risks posed by third parties to CNL.
  • Supporting operations of an integrated, enterprise wide risk management program related third party risks, including proactive risk screening and assessment, integrated due diligence, and response protocols for non-compliance. Identify areas of risk exposure in CNL’s third party engagements, related to ethics and the protection of CNL’s interests.
  • Ensuring third party risk management program is responsive to emerging changes in the risk environment, include emerging regulation/legislation or other new business compliance risks.
  • Ensuring risk management program is benchmarked against and operating to best industry standards and practices.
  • Monitoring CNL business and operations for non-compliance with the ethics and Code of Conduct risks, both internally (staff and contingent workers) and externally (third parties).
  • Coordinating response where non-compliance is identified or suspected. Conduct investigations, reviews and assessments in respect of suspected breaches or non-compliant behaviour. Ensure all response operations are legally defensible and satisfy all applicable legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Strategizing and coordinating with other areas of the business, including Human Resources, Supply Chain and Legal, at all levels up to and including the Executive, to take remedial action to address substantiated non-compliance and prevent recurrence.
  • Supporting the operations of the organizational conflict of interest management program, including COIs related to CNL staff, third parties, as well as affiliate personnel.
  • Ensuring program proactively identifies any conflicts of interest in advance. Where COIs are identified, work with the involved parties to gather all information relevant to their management. Analyze the relevant information, including the operational business needs, to develop COI management plans that address the actual conflict of interest, and mitigate any appearance of impropriety.
  • Ensuring the proper people at the right levels of the organization are communicated with so manage understands the risks and mitigation strategies, and their role in executing them.
  • Supporting Ethics & Investigations reporting, including the preparation of regular reports for the executive committee and audit committee of the BoD on relevant issues, trends and risks.
  • Supporting ethics training delivery and compliance around the company.
  • Conducting awareness briefings on matters related to Ethics & Investigations.
What we are looking for:
  • University degree in a social sciences or business related field from a university of recognized standing or college.
  • Must have or be willing to obtain a professional certification such as Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
  • Must have or be willing to obtain an Ontario Private Investigator License.
  • 7-10 years of progressive and relevant experience
  • A Minimum of 5 years’ experience in investigations or risk analysis
  • Experience analyzing high volumes of complex transactions
  • Knowledge, training and experience conducting fact finding investigations, including interviewing techniques, evidence handling and protection, and producing fact-based, objective reports or assessments.
  • Advanced communication skills, including written and oral communication. Ability to write with clarity and concision, summarizing complex situations in a clear and straightforward manner
  • Advanced analytical reasoning skills and a demonstrated ability to apply critical thinking to complex fact patterns.
  • Effective interpersonal skills for building relationship, establishing trust, and mediating conflicts. Aptitude for fostering inter-team integration and building collaborative approaches to problem solving.
  • Understanding of and experience in applying the principals of procedural fairness and natural justice.
  • Advanced problem solving skills and the ability to analyze conflicting information and different perspectives to arrive at factual conclusions.
  • Understanding of the Canada Labour Code Part 2, specifically related to workplace violence and harassment.
  • Understanding of legislation related to third party due diligence, such as the Corruption of Foreign Public Officials Act and Modern Slavery Act.
  • Strong business acumen and an understanding of third party engagement risk.
Security clearance eligibility required: Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom.

Location of Work - Hybrid (Category B)
  • This role is based out of CNL’s Chalk River site, however, subject to the terms of this agreement, the primary work location will be remote. The role will require some regular and frequent attendance at the Chalk River site. The schedule and frequency will be determined by discussions with the manager as well as internal client and project needs. CNL may require travel from time to time, as necessary.
