Family Support Worker - Family Model Resource
This is a 0-14 hours per week position with flex/on call shifts.
Reports to: Program Manager
General Description
The Family Support Worker will work one-to-one with a 15-year old, high-functioning autistic youth to assist in any economic, vocational, recreational, social, emotional, and daily life skills development to achieve the greatest degree of independence and quality of life possible.
Duties
- Supporting families through above‐mentioned processes.
- Facilitating psycho‐education and support groups.
- Ensuring adequate communication and liaison between milieu, school, recreation, physical care and other resources.
- Participate in planning for and in discussions of progress of children and youth using strength‐based ICM and wraparound processes.
- Preparing required reports, keeping records and performing other duties as required
- Facilitating parent education trainings.
- Using information gathered from assessment tools and collaboration with clients to identify clear client goals and appropriate intervention strategies.
- Reviewing and updating client goals on a regular basis.
- Facilitating presentations for community service providers to enhance knowledge of FASD and other brain based disabilities.
- Other duties as negotiated with Program Manager
Academic and Specialized Abilities
- Bachelor degree in social work, child and youth care, or related human service field with a minimum of 1 year related experience;
- Working with children and youth who demonstrate significant to severe behavioral difficulties, exhibit cognitive and developmental challenges and have complex health and mental health issues
- Working knowledge of children, youth and families with FASD and other complex behavioral disorder needs, and/or multiple social or educational needs, and how to support families
- Developing and facilitating support groups
- Managing a varied, complex caseload
- Working across disciplines and agencies
- Criminal Record Check

- Understanding of adolescent and adult addiction issues\

- Produce clear and accurate verbal and written reports

- CPI – Non‐Violent Crisis Intervention Current Certification
- Valid Level I First Aid certificate
- Use of a reliable vehicle capable of safely transporting families for work and valid Driver’s License.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of community professionals.
- Must complete a probationary period as specified in the Collective Agreement
- Have no relevant criminal history.
- Workers must maintain confidentiality, undergo annual successful criminal record checks, and be sensitive to diversity among clients, co‐workers and the community
