A hidden gem in the heart of BC’s exciting new Thompson Valley wine region, Privato is a family-owned winery dedicated to the production of traditional Burgundian and Bordeaux-styled wine. Woodward Cider Co is a rapidly growing craft cider company owned by the 3 Woodward brothers.
Role:
As a Farm Manager overseeing diversified agricultural operations, you will be responsible for the efficient management and coordination of various farming activities, including vineyard, orchard, hayfields, Christmas trees, gardens, grounds, and building maintenance. This role requires a skilled individual with a strong background in agriculture, horticulture, and general farm management.
The candidate must be versatile, flexible, accountable, and have an enthusiastic demeanor. As a member of our small team, you’ll have the opportunity to wear many hats and have a willingness to “pitch in” in a constantly changing environment to ensure we reach our goal of becoming everyone’s favorite family winery and cidery.
Key Responsibilities:
Crop Management
· Develop and implement comprehensive plans for planting, cultivating, and harvesting crops such as grapes, fruits, hay, and Christmas trees.
· Monitor and manage irrigation systems to ensure optimal water usage and crop health.
· Implement pest control strategies and disease prevention measures.
Vineyard and Orchard Management
· Supervise and lead teams in pruning, grafting, and other orchard and vineyard maintenance activities.
· Oversee the application of fertilizers and other nutrients to enhance crop yield and quality.
· Coordinate with winemakers and other specialists for the production of high-quality wines and fruits.
Hayfields and Pasture Management
· Manage hayfields and pasture areas for livestock feed.
· Implement rotational grazing practices to maintain soil health and optimize forage production.
Christmas Tree Farming
· Plan and execute the cultivation of Christmas trees, including planting, shearing, and harvesting.
· Coordinate the sale and distribution of Christmas trees during the holiday season.
Garden Management
· Supervise the planning and maintenance of gardens, including vegetable and ornamental plantings.
· Implement sustainable and organic gardening practices.
Grounds Maintenance
· Ensure the overall aesthetic appeal and functionality of the property's grounds.
· Supervise landscaping, lawn care, and other grounds maintenance activities.
Building Maintenance
· Oversee the maintenance and repair of farm buildings, equipment, and infrastructure.
· Implement safety protocols to ensure a secure working environment.
Budgeting and Financial Management
· Develop and manage budgets for each aspect of the farm operations.
· Monitor expenses, analyze financial reports, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
Team Leadership and Training
· Recruit, train, and supervise farm personnel.
· Foster a positive work environment and ensure effective communication within the team.
Regulatory Compliance
· Stay informed about and comply with local, state, and federal regulations related to farming practices.
· Implement sustainable and environmentally friendly practices where applicable.
Who We Are Looking For:
· Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, horticulture, or related field (masters is a plus)
· Proven experience in diversified farm management.
· Strong knowledge of crop science, horticulture, and sustainable farming practices.
· Excellent leadership and communication skills.
· Ability to work collaboratively with specialists, agronomists, and other professionals.

This is a full-time position based in our company’s farm in Kamloops. The start date for this position would be February/March 2024.
