Your opportunity:
The Financial Services Department (FSD) provides financial expertise to the University's community. Comprised of a group of accounting professionals, the FSD office is focused on financial reporting and the University Guide to Financial Management policy compliance. The office provides support, guidance, and training to departments on financial matters.
As Financial Accounting Analyst, you will perform a broad range of duties including financial reporting, analysis and financial management, in support of ancillary services and the broader University community. You will liaise with multiple business units to resolve issues and provide guidance and advice.
You will foster strong working relationships with stakeholders and leverage your analytical skills to synthesize information, uncover trends, and deliver insights to optimize internal processes and improve decision-making. Your versatility will enable you to support a broad complement of financial activities, including University Overhead Calculation, Short-Term Investment Revenue Distribution, Deficit Financial Charges, Fixed Asset amortization, Debt Services Calculation, etc. Your ability to work independently and as part of a highly cohesive team will allow you to take on new projects to ensure and promote the optimal function of our office.
Under the general direction of the Manager, Restricted Fund and Ancillary Accounting, the incumbent provides financial expertise to support the University's fiscal year-end closing, prepare financial reports, and answer auditors' inquiries.
Your responsibilities will include:
• Overseeing the financial management of budgets, including strategic planning, forecasting and analysis
• Performing complex financial data modeling and analysis, and producing complex statistical reports
• Processing financial transactions according to the University Guide to Financial Management
• Monitoring, reconciling, and reporting on funding accounts
• Analyzing financial processes and procedures and recommending changes for improvement
• Analyzing and making recommendations for financial management and accounting process
• Serving as subject matter expert resource to senior leadership and across various teams within FSD
• Developing task schedules in concert with project schedules
• Planning components of projects
Essential Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Minimum four years' related financial experience in accounting, modeling, analysis, and financial reporting, in a University or similar public sector environment
• Experience preparing budgets, monitoring accounts, financial reconciliations, forecasts, and analysis
• Experience with the maintenance of complex financial models
• Experience working with spreadsheets, analyzing financial data and statistics, and producing complex reports
• Experience conducting financial research and presenting findings
• Experience in bringing innovative solutions and processes to create efficiencies in financial management
• Successful experience providing support and consultation to various stakeholders
• Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite, including expert knowledge of MS Excel and Financial Information System (FIS)
• Strong written and oral communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge of accounting principles
• Highly attentive to detail and accuracy
• Demonstrated ability to organize and execute complex projects and manage conflicting priorities within established timelines
• Ability to work independently as well as a collaborative team member in a multi-stakeholder environment
• Ability to exercise sound judgment, respect matters of a sensitive nature, and maintain confidentiality
Assets (Nonessential):
• Completion of a recognized accounting program (CMA, CGA, CA)
• Experience with accounting for ancillary business
