We are a locally owned and operated company in Kenora ON, with locations in Warroad MN and Winnipeg MB, helping us close the loop around our communities on Lake of the Woods! Lake of the Woods Brewing Company is Ontario’s Northernmost brewery and is committed to sustainable practices, business growth and development, and building external and internal alliances to support local, fresh, and handcrafted goods and services. Lake of the Woods Brewing Company’s flagship location is in a repurposed, historic fire hall in downtown Kenora on the northern shores of Lake of the Woods with a Taproom & Eatery, Retail Store, Online Shop, and Commercial Sales – all under one roof. We are Minnesota’s northernmost brewery located in Warroad on the shores of Lake of the Woods! Our most recent addition is our unique microbrewery and tasting room in downtown Winnipeg, located in Hargrave St Market in True North Square. We are young and we are growing! WHAT THE JOB ENTAILS:
Ideally the successful candidate resides between Thunder Bay Ontario and Winnipeg Manitoba. The GOVERNMENT & PUBLIC RELATIONS MANAGER is a key member of the organization and as such the ideal candidate is a self-starter, ready, willing and able to take on new challenges. Lake of the Woods Brewing Company has been built on a solid foundation and is expected to emerge from these uncertain times as strong as ever with new opportunities right on the horizon. A new production facility is under construction, new products are in development, and efficiency and productivity improvements are just a few of the potential untapped opportunities for growth. The ideal candidate will be someone who is passionate about taking Lake of the Woods Brewing Company to the next level.


GOVERNMENT & PUBLIC RELATIONS MANAGER:

The candidate should have experience and knowledge in the areas of: grant writing, relationship building, strategic partnerships, planning, communications, public relations, and business development. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have knowledge of and interest in the craft beer industry and how it intersects at the nexus of manufacturing, hospitality, food & beverage, and tourism sectors. Job duties include working alongside of senior staff including Marketing & Branding Manager, Director of Sales, and Finance Manager. This position will lead activities related to engagement with the government and the public, communications and social media, strategic planning, advocacy, and business development more broadly. In addition, the Government & Public Relations Manager will manage the areas of organizational development related to business expansion, community development, and public affairs. The successful candidate will report to the President & CEO.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Key Roles & Responsibilities

  • Work with key members of the management team to further the goals and objectives of Lake of the Woods Brewing Co – positioning the company for sustainable growth, productivity and profitability;
  • Build external and internal alliances, shift-shaping the business as a transformational enterprise, supporting community development in the City of Kenora, surrounding Lake of the Woods region and other places where Lake of the Woods Brewing Co does business (eg. City of Winnipeg);
  • Create and leverage strategic partnerships and foster new & existing relationships in the areas related to: a) B Corp Certification; b) Community Development; c) Special Projects;
  • Identify needs and opportunities, in co-operation with the President & CEO and other key members of the organization, related to the continued growth and development of Lake of the Woods Brewing Co; and, in this way – work on grant applications for projects related to infrastructure, business development, business expansion, human resources, community development, and other areas;
  • Write press releases and prepare information for distribution to media outlets; respond to requests for information from media outlets;
  • Support the creation and dissemination of social media content (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Blogs, Podcasts, etc);
  • Communicate essential information effectively to the public.
