Job Description:
The medical team at Camp Winston includes two qualified individuals who work to ensure the health, safety, and wellbeing of all individuals at camp. Additionally, the medical team will implement and observe the requirements of the health unit and the Ontario Camps’ Association.
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Oversee the intake, storage, and delivery of all camper medication over the course of their time at Camp Winston.
2. Maintain accurate and up-to-date Medication Administration Records that include any and all medications provided to campers who are under the care of Camp Winston.
3. Provide appropriate first aid and health assessments to both campers and staff as needed and/or requested.
4. Communicate with appropriate guardians regarding adverse health and/or safety incidents involving campers at camp. Fill in incident reports as deemed necessary.
5. Communicate with the Senior and Director team regarding illnesses or other health issues at camp.
6. One member of the camp medical team will be available ‘on-call’ each night to respond to medical emergencies as needed. This schedule will rotate as determined by the medical team.
7. Follow standing orders from Camp Winston’s physician and consult with physician as needed over the summer.
8. Manage the opening and closing of the Nursing station each season including general cleaning and disinfecting, as well as inventory of all supplies and equipment and completing order as needed, pending approval.
Additional Duties:
1. Act as liaison between camp and local pharmacies, hospitals, physician.
2. Stock first aid supplies in all buildings and waterfront areas.
3. Participate in staff training week to deliver messages regarding camper and staff health and safety, as well as to be appropriately trained in relevant Camp Winston skills.
Qualifications & Experience:
● Relevant experience working in the healthcare industry ()
● Relevant post-secondary education,
● Insurable licensed driver with a clean driver abstract
● Satisfactory police record and vulnerable sector checks
● First-aid CPR certified.
● Strong presentation, written and verbal communication skills
● Ability to resolve conflict and work with a variety of personalities
● Ability to set and achieve business and team goals
● Collaborative relationship-builder
Considerable Assets:
● Social work experience
● Experiencing working with youth with Neurobiological Disorders
● The ability to learn new software, with experience using CampBrain
Location and Hours
● The Health Care Assistant will live onsite from June - August and will be a key leader during staff training and sessions.
● Must be available for medication administration times
- May be required to provide ‘on-call’ responses
