About the Role:
Reporting to the Lead Business Partner, the Associate Business Partner (HR Advisor) would provide advice and guidance to business leaders on employee and labour relations, conflict resolution, performance management, employee engagement, compensation, and recruitment. The position plays a key role supporting the management team and is seen as a vital business partner. The successful candidate would support our News and Radio teams.
You'll be working on things like:
- Perpetuate a culture of high performance through effective leader coaching and feedback
- Advise leaders on the effective use of professional development plans, performance improvement plans, progressive discipline, and risk mitigated termination decisions
- Coach leaders on creating an environment where positive employee relations are foundational to the successful outcome of high employee engagement and retention in service of the successful delivery of business objectives, such as performance, engagement, progressive discipline
- Working with the Total Rewards team provide guidance on compensation decisions for new hires, lateral moves, promotions, off-cycle changes, merit, and market adjustments
- Investigate informal complaints, and deliver investigation outcomes to employees
- Interpretation of the collective agreement, build relationships with union representatives and manage grievances.
- Interpretation and implementation of relevant employment practices (e.g. Provincial and Federal employment and human rights legislation, collective agreements, labour law, etc.)
- Partner with Total Rewards, Payroll, Talent Development, Labour Relations, DEI, Recruitment, and the rest of the Business Partner team.
- Post-secondary education in Human Resources or related field
- 1-3 years of experience in an HR advisory capacity providing one-on-one coaching to business leaders on employee/labour relations, performance improvement, engagement, etc.
- Experience working a unionized environment is preferred
- Demonstrated consulting and coaching skills
- Ability to work autonomously and make decisions on a variety of HR related issues
- Knowledge of HR practices and principles
- Knowledge and experience with Federal employment legislation (eg. CLC)
- Strong interpersonal, relationship building and influencing skills
- CHRP designation or in progress an asset
- Ability to work independently and within a team in a fast-paced rapidly changing environment
- A positive attitude and customer focused approach that will enable you to deal with challenging situations with integrity, empathy and sincerity
