Hydroponic Container FarmOperator & Community Engagement Manager
Location: PRINCE EDWARD COUNTY, ON
Job Summary: We're seeking a motivated and passionate individual to join our team as a Hydroponic Container Farm Operator and Community Engagement Manager. In this role, you will play a vital role in the operation and maintenance of our vertical farm system, and act as a representative in the community with the goal of building strong relationships and selling produce to our clients.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities:
· Responsible for operations and general maintenance of the Container Farm. Training will be provided.
· In charge of planting seeds, transplanting seedlings, and harvesting mature crops.
· Maintain environmental conditions of the container to ensure crop health.
· Perform routine maintenance tasks to ensure the proper functioning of equipment and systems, including but not limited to cleaning, monitoring nutrient levels, and troubleshooting technical issues.
· Maintain accurate records of planting, harvesting, and maintenance activities for inventory management and quality control purposes.
· Monitor crop health to ensure quality and health & safety.
· Collaborate with the team to identify areas for improvement and contribute ideas for optimizing farm operations and increasing productivity.
· Sales and business development within the community to create partnerships with prospective and existing clients.
· Responsible for creating strong relationships with members of the community with regards to hospitality, eco-tourism, hydroponic farming, local agriculture, etc.
About you:
· Have a genuine interest in agriculture, urban farming, or related fields.
· Can dedicate a minimum 30 hours per week to container operation.
· Previous experience in agriculture or hydroponics is a plus but not required.
· Comfortable with technology and willingness to learn how to operate and troubleshoot.
· Ability to perform tasks that involve lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
· Meticulous attention to detail to ensure the quality and consistency of crops.
· Capable of delivering accurate results in a fast-paced and dynamic atmosphere.
· Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
· Problem-solving and proactive approach, ability to think creatively about how to address challenges.
· Strong work ethic with a high level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism.
· Ideally, the candidate will be able dedicate an additional 10 hours per week to Community Engagement and sales/business development tasks.
· Ability to build rapport with customers, stakeholders, and community members is essential for fostering positive relationships and driving business growth. Face-to-face meetings and interactions both on the farm and in the community will take place, so a professional, but approachable and friendly demeanor is necessary.
· Must possess a valid driver's license and have access to a vehicle for transportation of weekly deliveries of fresh produce.
· Must reside in Picton region (under 100km radius).
