Kids Help Phone is Canada's only free, 24/7 service offering professional counselling, information, referrals, and texting support for young people in both English and French. We provide life-changing support to youth millions of times each year (over 4.1 million in 2022 alone).

We began in 1989as a unique telephone counselling service, and for 34 years, we’ve evolved our response and innovated our offerings and technology to stay relevant to youth, recognizing the complexity of issues they face.

The Opportunity

The Inuit Engagement Coordinator (IEC) will work closely with Indigenous communities with focus on Inuit communities to advance Finding Hope: Kids Help Phone’s Action Plan for Supporting First Nations, Inuit and Métis Young People. The Inuit Engagement Coordinator will increase access to, and awareness of Kids Help Phone services and other resources among Indigenous youth and communities.

The IEC will support volunteers in Weaving Threads: An Indigenous Engagement Program, coordinate sessions of Brighter Days: An Indigenous Wellness Program supported by Sun Life, and support participating in other KHP Indigenous programs and iniaitiatives. The IEC will also support Kids Help Phone’s broader Indigenous initiatives through volunteer recruitment, donor support, event and meeting coordination, and Indigenous advocacy efforts.

The Inuit Engagement Coordinatorwill work directly with Indigenous youth and add an Indigenous perspective to Kids Help Phone programs and servicestherefore Inuit applicants are preferred and only First Nations, Inuit or Metis candidates will be considered.

What You’ll Contribute:

  • Support volunteers in Weaving Threads: An Indigenous Engagement Program through onboarding and training, regular check-ins, and assisting volunteers in their role of building awareness of Kids Help Phone services, providing ongoing input, connecting youth with resources and more
  • Coordinate Brighter Days: An Indigenous Wellness Program supported by Sun Life including booking sessions and ensuring participating groups receive all program materials
  • Coordinate the distribution of outreach materials to Indigenous communities
  • Assist Indigenous communities who wish to increase access to and awareness of Kids Help Phone services
  • Coordinates and supports meetings and events including booking travel and accommodations, processing expense claims, and preparing meeting packages
  • Contributes to Kids Help Phone committees and supports Indigenous advocacy efforts
  • Identifies potential Indigenous partners, vendors, and trainers to support Kids Help Phone’s Indigenous and diversity initiatives
  • Contributes to program and service development and evaluation

What You’ll Need:

  • Post-secondary degree or diploma in relevant discipline (e.g. public health, social work, education, applied social sciences, communications)
  • Two years of experience supporting youth volunteers
  • Able to manage projects and tight deadlines in a fast paced, resource-lean environment
  • Strong sense of professionalism, confidentiality and commitment to maintaining a safe environment for youth
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of products
  • Demonstrated commitment to volunteerism, non-profit and/or mental health sector
