JOB DESCRIPTION
The City of Orillia has an exciting opportunity for an Information Technology (IT) Student who will work directly with the Manager of Information Technology in the Business Development, Tourism, Modernization Division of the Corporate Services Department for approximately four months.
DUTIES
- Track IT Security Program deliverables by accessing Phishing results, Patching reports, Microsoft Updates, publish vulnerabilities etc. Determine risk and actions to be taken.
- Track progress against the NIST assessment performed by a third party including making recommendations on actions or automation which would address risks.
- Update, implement, and maintain IT Security documents (plans, policies, procedures, standards, guidelines, and baselines including the IT Business Resumption Plan).
- Review IT Security recommendations made by third parties including MISA (Municipal Information Systems Association), the Federal Government, Cyber Insurance providers, Audit, and other external vendors. Monitor progress against improvement and action plans.
- Research, recommend and document technical actions required to address security readiness requirements including technical fixes, security patches, backups, and modern technology implementation.
- Liaise with vendors, and other technology experts in a wide gamut of areas including Disaster recovery, Networking, Cloud technology, IT Security, Business Resumption, Disaster Recovery, SIEM and IT procedures to develop and make recommendations and track IT Security improvements.
- Write briefs, prepare business cases, and perform presentations to the Senior Management team regarding recommendations on IT security, products, and approaches.
- Work as a member of the IT team to provide technical support to the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently enrolled in, or a graduate of a university program with in one or more of the following fields of study: Computer Science, Information Management, Information Science, Computer Engineering Technology preferably with an IT Security or Cyber Security major.
- Knowledge of research and forecasting techniques.
- Exceptional attention to detail, writing, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work independently and as a team.
- Expertise in Microsoft 365 Products including MS Excel, and MS Word is required. Knowledge of MS SharePoint, MS Teams PowerPoint is an asset.
- Familiarity with Cloud Based Software and Solutions.
- Must possess a valid class ‘G’ Ontario driver’s license with access to a reliable vehicle.
- A current and acceptable Criminal Record Check is required, at the incumbent’s expense, prior to the employment start date.
Candidates will be screened for eligibility pertaining to requirements under the Canada Summer Jobs (CSJ) Program. Compensation for this position is $19.03 per hour for up to 35 hours per week, with flexibility based on the successful candidate’s availability during the contract period of approximately May to August.
