Reporting to the Director, Tourism and Cultural Industries, the Manager, Destination Marketing (Manager) is responsible for the development and oversight of multiple ongoing marketing campaigns and initiatives and will undertake this work with the support of the Market and Research Analyst. Ultimately, the Manager will work to increase the number of visitors, and the amount of money they spend in Nunavut, by enduring that attractions, products and services meet or exceed the highest standards, while retaining the qualities that make Nunavut a unique destination.
The Manager is required to lead the strategic direction to:
- Increase visitation and tourism revenues through opportunity-based, coordinated tourism development initiatives;
- Increase the number of Nunavut-owned market-ready, high-quality attractions, products and services;
- Develop and implement targeted tourism marketing plans based on tourism research; and
- Ensure Inuit participation in the tourism industry at representative levels.
The Manager will work extensively with tourism businesses to gather information, monitor changes in the industry, and provide objective information, guidance, and expert advice to tourism operators on how to best market their businesses. The Manager and its staff will endeavour to increase benefits from tourism in Nunavut by working with the entire Tourism and Cultural Industries division to increase the number of businesses and jobs, supporting existing and new Inuit-owned operations and other Nunavut-owned businesses, and fostering growth through stronger relationships between southern-based or international wholesalers and investors and Nunavummiut.
The knowledge, skills, and abilities required for this job are usually obtained through a recognized
undergraduate degree in Marketing, Tourism, Communications, or related field, plus three (3) years of directly related work experience in Destination Marketing and communications including a minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience. Current tourism industry marketing and promotion experience including market research, print media and internet activities, trade shows, consumer shows, and other programs is an asset. The ability to use technology applications in the travel and tourism industry is an asset. Also, the ability to set up phones and computer equipment for meetings and conference calls is an asset. This is a Position of Trust and a satisfactory Criminal Record Check is required.
The Official Languages of Nunavut are Inuktut, English and French. Applicants may submit their resume in any of the official languages of Nunavut. Fluency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages would be considered an asset. Knowledge of Inuit communities, culture, land, Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit, Inuktut and experience working in a northern cross-cultural environment are also considered assets.

Current indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees may be offered a competitive transfer assignment for the duration of the term if they are deemed to be the successful candidate, however this is subject to managerial approval.
