Reporting to the Director, People and Culture, the Manager, Total Compensation will advance the University’s people strategy by overseeing the University’s a Total Compensation program, including but not limited to, salary, benefits, pensions and other ancillary benefits. The Manager will provide advice and support in the areas of compensation and benefits to both employees and University management. The Manager provides guidance and direction regarding the interpretation, administration and implementation of policies and procedures, Collective Agreements, the non-union employee policies, and the Labour Standards Code as they relate to the University’s benefit and pension plans.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversees the administration of the University’s payroll, benefits, and pension programs covering over 1,500 full- and part-time employees.
- Ensures Total Compensation policies and procedures comply with legislation, relevant collective agreement requirements and University policies.
- Regularly reviews Total Compensation offerings to ensure they meet the needs of the University’s employee groups.
- Acts as the primary administrator for the University’s UKG Human Resources Information System. Ensures departmental needs are addressed and managers and employees are supported.
- Advises employees on their entitlements under benefit and pension plans.
- Administers the day-to-day activities associated with the benefit and pension plans.
- Leads and mentors a dedicated team of Total Compensation specialists.
Qualifications/Skills
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably with a focus in Human Resources.
- Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) designation required; Payroll Leadership Professional (PLP) and Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS) designations preferred.
- 5 to 7 years of experience in Total Compensation (payroll, benefits, etc.) with experience leading a team of professionals.
- Experience in a unionized environment, preferably with experience in post-secondary education.
- Understanding of and commitment to confidentiality.
