The Member, Digital Service Squad (DSS) meets with small business owners and helps them develop a plan to improve their online presence and, as a result, potentially increase their sales. This includes advice about their website, how to improve search results, and their visual identity. This position is part of a grant program funded by the Government of Alberta that intend to hire youth as their DSS members. This program is part of the Digital Economy Program delivered by BusinessLink and in collaboration with Digital Main Street and offered throughout the province. Primary Duties include:
- Work one-on-one with eligible local small businesses in Calgary to provide advisory services, and activation/implementation support to help businesses embrace and adopt digital technology and assist them in increasing their online and digital presence.
- Review relevant and available digital options like social media platforms, website, and Google My business profile optimizations.
- Provide action plan that helps provide guidance on how to adopt new technologies and embrace digital marketing.
- Give feedback on how they can best kickstart their own digital activities and tactics to help their business in terms of building online presence and grow online with new customers.
- Provide guidance to business owners on how they can implement easy-to-use digital tools and technologies.
- High School diploma or equivalent (i.e GED) and post-secondary course work in the areas of: Digital Media and Branding, Marketing and Communications, Public Relations, Innovation, Entrepreneurship or Business.
- Up to one year of experience working with or serving small businesses, the public and/or in a marketing environment is required.
- Ability to provide own transportation to and from businesses as needed.
- Basic software and virtual collaboration tools such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point) and Slack/MS Teams.
- Familiarity with digital technologies for small business (e.g.: web, social media, e-commerce, etc.).
- Previous experience providing assistance for Digital Services to others is considered an asset.
- Success in this position requires the ability to work with local businesses 1-on-1 on digital transformation support and possess strong communications, interpersonal, customer service and relationship building/management skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills are required.
