About us
We are a small town, full scope, optometric practice. We pride ourselves on being 'patient-centric' in our approach. Our hope is to provide a rewarding, professional, and calm work atmosphere to all employees. Currently, we are looking for 1-2 employees. One scenario is that 'one' suitable candidate (certified Optometric Assistant) is hired to handle all office needs, with the pay-rate according to the duties accepted and required. A second scenario is that 2 employees would be hired, and the office duties would be spit (in a mutually agreeable way) with the pay-rates according to the agreed upon employment duties. Currently, the office is full managed by only one Optometric Assistant (as only one optometrist is practicing at this office), and job responsibilities include reception, social media managment, automated pre and post testing, spectacle dispensary, and contact lens training (to list the main duties...). Unfortunately, the hour commute is proving to be too much for the current staff member, and thus a change in employment for is pending. By all accounts, our staff enjoyed the past 4.5 years at Woolwich Optometry, and we would anticipate a similar degree of enjoyment and job satisfaction for a similar Optometric Assistant candidate.
**Duties:**
- Assist optometrist in providing patient care during eye exams and procedures.
- Perform auxilliary tests and measurements as required.
- Prepare patients for examinations by taking short history and documenting chief complaints.
- Administer automated diagnostic tests (A/R/K, and NCT/PACH), and fundus photography.
- Assist with contact lens fittings, including insertion, removal, and instruction on care and maintenance.
- Full Spectacle Dispensary work. Experience with Spectacle Dispensary work is required.
- ODOfficePro software experience is a bonus. Some experience with optometric electronic medical records (EMR) would be beneficial, but this can be taught.
- Handle all front desk duties, including scheduling appointments, verifying insurance coverage (OHIP), and collecting payments, etc.
**Experience:**
- Previous experience in an optometric clinic is required for the Certified Optometric Assistant position. If a secondary position for reception is deemed necessary, than no experience for this position is required, as training would be provided (medical office/professional customer service experience would be an asset).
- Familiarity with our electronic medical records (EMR) system, ODOfficePro, would be an asset, but some optometric software experience would be sufficient.
- Knowledge of medical terminology related to optometry and ophthalmology required for the Optometric Assistant position. If reception position only, full training would be provided.
- Experience in optometric patient care is required for the Optometric Assistant position.
- Understanding of pediatric eye care is desirable, as we do have a large pediatric population of patients. We are full scope, in terms of our patient population, and indeed have a portion of patients that would be considered 'special needs', and thus some experience in caring for this population of patients would also be an asset.
We are seeking a dedicated Optometric Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for patient care and excellent communication skills. This position requires attention to detail, multitasking abilities, and the ability to work well with minimal supervision and in a steadily-paced professional environment.
- Competitive salary (currently, our weekly pay is based on a 28.5 hour week. Please reference our website for our current office hours. We pay 8 hours on each Tues, Wed, Thurs, and pay 4.5 hours on Fri).
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent, and CCOA.
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work well in a team environment, but with minimal supervision.
- Excellent organizational skills
- Work Hours are set. As the practice grows, new practice days may open up, but there will be no requirement to expand your working hours. The option for expanded hours will be given to existing staff (without pressure), but new staff will be hired accordingly.
If you are looking for a rewarding career in the field of optometry, we encourage you to apply. Please submit your resume highlighting your relevant experience. We look forward to reviewing your application, and we will be sure to respond to all relevant applications. Thank you very much for your interest in this position.
Sincerely,
Chad Chhatwal, O.D.
